Toxicologie cellulaireIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : An understanding of both the reactive functions of epoxide resins and collagen, suggests that some epoxides could be effectively used in organic tannage systems. Such epoxides may be regarded as alternatives to aldehydic tanning systems, having lower toxicity combined with specific polymerization ability. The commercial and technical potential of epoxides as tanning agents are assessed in this review paper. To this end, an introduction to epoxide chemistry is provided based on the tanning chemist’s viewpoint. The literature survey describes epoxideprotein/collagen addition reaction mechanisms and their kinetics, which in turn are discussed with respect to the potential for future work, where these resins will be utilised in novel tanning technology. The potential risks associated with epoxides and modifications to conventional techniques of tanning, are also discussed.

ViscositéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Epoxidized polybutadiene was evaluated as a reactive prepolymer for cationically curable photosensitive compositions. Various epoxy or vinyl ether functional reactive diluents were used as viscosity reducers. Compositions with an average content of 5 mmol.g−1 of polymerizable functions were submitted to viscosity measurements, and their reactivity under UV-irradiation was examined by UV and/or IR spectroscopy. The initiator photolysis can be monitored easily and adequate exposure times were determined by simple kinetic treatment. The polymerization of epoxy monomers was driven to high conversion (over 95%) provided that the film was submitted to a soft thermal post treatment. Coatings of high flexibility and showing good adhesion to aluminium, steel, and glass were obtained by adequate adjustment of the formulations composition. The content in reactive diluent was kept to a low level without loss of curing ability. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Materials - Equipment - Characterization of cured coatings

This article, supplied by Ciba Specialty Chemicals, Performance Polymers, East Lansing, Mich., describes how their Araldite epoxy systems(*) are specially designed to bond SMC substrates. The systems produce longlasting, sag-resistant joints that can withstand exposure to environmental extremes and the vibration to which trucks, buses and other mass transit vehicles are exposed.
The adhesives are also easy to use because they are supplied in 200 ml cartridges that provide for precise mixing and easy, low-waste application using Liquid Control's Supermix II cartridge dispensing system.Note de contenu : - Hood panel replacement

PolyanilineIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The preparation of electrically conducting epoxy adhesives based on an Inherently Conducting Polymer, PANI-c, has been demonstrated. Bulk conductivities from [10.sup.-8] to [10.sup.-3] S [cm.sup.-1], i.e. antistatic range, were achieved with a remarkably low concentration (<2.0 w/w%) of conducting polymer in an epoxy matrix. Adhesion properties were not adversely affected by the presence of the conducting polymer.
