Spectroscopie d'impédance électrochimiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Graphene as a two-dimensional nanomaterial has been extensively researched as a new additive to improve barrier performance, reduce corrosion and
extend service life in protective coatings. Previous results have demonstrated significant uplifts in anticorrosive performance in solvent-based coatings using graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs), presenting new opportunities for improved protective coatings with extended service life.
However, water-based coating development remains a key focus for industry formulators where there is an ongoing effort to reduce the release of volatile organics and achieve comparable anticorrosion performance to that seen in solvent-based systems.
To date, dispersion of graphene in water-based systems has been problematic, causing coating instability or requiring large amounts of surfactant. A breakthrough technology has been developed that enables easy dispersion in water-based coatings while delivering improved corrosion performance. This development provides an important step to raising waterborne coatings' anticorrosion performance and use.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE : dsispersion development and testing - Material & sample preparation

Traction (mécanique)Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Since alkyd resins include hazardous solvents, converting alkyds into waterborne hybrid polymers is an essential research topic. Here, alkyd/styrene acrylic waterborne hybrid polymers were synthesized in the presence of monomers, water, emulsifiers, and an initiator by using synthesized alkyd resins at 0%, 5%, 10%, and 15% ratios based on the total monomer ratio. A mini-emulsion technique and a semi-batch polymerization method were used to synthesize the latexes. Two different biosources, tall oil fatty acids (TOFA) and hemp seed oils (HSO), were used to synthesize the alkyd resins. Synthesized waterborne hybrid latexes and their films were analyzed by using FTIR, NMR, particle size, MFFT, TGA, DSC, CA, AFM, and mechanical tests. It was determined that the type and concentration of the alkyds affected the viscosity, particle size, Tg and MFFT values, and appearance. It was also identified that alkyd incorporation took place with grafting and that the alkyd concentration was particularly effective in increasing the particle size. In addition, experiments were carried out on waterborne paint systems for exterior paint by using synthesized hybrid polymer emulsions. It was observed that the alkyd content was not effective in changing the paint color in hybrid latexes. As a result, it is suggested that hybrid waterborne latexes could be used for exterior paints. ViscositéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Oxyethylene (PEO)/oxypropylene (PPO) triblock polymers are added to colorant formulations to determine the influence of molecular weight and other structural variances on the rheology and color development of tinted latex paints. Waterborne coatings are a matrix of many coating components. In this study, a 108- or a 600-nm latex was thickened with a nonassociative thickener, hydroxyethyl cellulose, or an associative telechelic HEUR thickener. Triblock polymers with internal PPO segments and PEO terminal segments added as a dispersant to colorant packages, lead to better color development than PPO/PEO/PPO triblocks dispersants in carbon black (CB) tinted paints. The increase in color development with high molecular weight (MW) triblocks starts at a very low concentration (2 mM) and plateaus in a Langmuir-type adsorption isotherm. Lower molecular weight triblock polymers also exhibit this behavior in CB-, red-, and yellow-tinted latex coatings; however, increasing the terminal PEO segment sizes leads to better color development only in the CB-tinted coatings. With large PEO terminal units red and yellow tints are high only at very low concentrations (2 mM) of the triblock. This parabolic response in color development, in contrast to CB-tinted formulations, is attributed to the high surface area and porosity of CB that limits the amount of large PEO segments interacting with the talc particle present at twice the volume fraction of the colorant. With the lower surface areas of the red and yellow colorants, the interaction of the large PEO terminal segments with talc particles accounts for the limited triblock concentration for which good color development is observed. This can be reversed by decreasing or eliminating talc from the formulation.

Tackifiant (adhésifs)Index. décimale : 668.3 Adhésifs et produits semblables Résumé : In summary, the modulus of this Dow Experimental PU dispersion is too high to be inherently pressure sensitive in an unformulated state. Various traditional PSA additives are useful in reducting this modulus. Plasticizers are more efficient in modulus reduction than tackifiers. Both the compatibility and softening point of the tackifier must be taken into account to achieve success.
The combination of tackifiers and plasticizers are effective in achieving the necessary modulus reduction. Also, the blending of lower modulus acrylic dispersions is useful to achieve modulus modification. The modification of the polymer backbone using traditional polyurethane chemistry or external cross-linkers can also be used to achieve specific PSA properties.
Based on these studies, it is our belief that polyurethane dispersions will soon find a more significant place among the many waterborne polymers being used in the PSA industry.Note de contenu : - Testing
