CollagénasesLes collagénases sont des enzymes capables de rompre les liaisons peptidiques du collagène. Elles facilitent la destruction des structures extracellulaires lors de la pathogenèse bactérienne. Ce sont des exotoxines.
La production de collagénases peut être induite lors d'une réponse immunitaire, par les cytokines qui stimulent les cellules telles que les fibroblastes et les ostéoplastes et occasionnent indirectement des lésions tissulaires.

QuebrachoLe quebracho est un arbre à écorce ligneuse, mesurant 30 mètres de haut, à feuilles tannées et à fleurs tubulées blanches.
Quebracho est l'un des noms communs, en espagnol, d'au moins trois espèces similaires d'arbres originaires du Gran Chaco, en Amérique latine : Schinopsis lorentzii (quebracho colorado santiagueño), de la famille des Anacardiaceae ; Schinopsis balansae (quebracho colorado chaqueño), de la même famille ;
Aspidosperma quebracho-blanco (quebracho blanc), de la famille des Apocynaceae.
Ces trois espèces sont riches en tanin et fournissent un bois très dur, particulièrement résistant. Leur nom provient de l'espagnol quiebrahacha, qui signifie brise-hache.

Tannage Résumé : To demonstrate the utility of the powdered hide model for vegetable tanning studies, interactions of quebracho with samples of powdered hide prepared from partially processed hides were investigated. Hides were dehaired by a typical sulfide or oxidative method and carried through the delime/bate step of a tanning process. Prior to tanning, the powdered hide from oxidative dehairing was on average slightly more susceptible to attack by collagenase than was the powdered hide from sulfide dehairing. After tanning with as little as 20% quebracho, powdered hide from both processes was well protected against collagenase degradation. Apparent shrinkage temperatures ranged between 79°C and 87°C , increasing with increased quebracho offer. Shrinkage temperatures for quebracho-treated oxidatively powdered hides were generally 2°C lower than for sulfide dehaired samples. This contrasts with no difference in shrinkage temperature for chrome tanned powdered hides. Comparison of micrographs of powdered hide treated with crude and purified quebracho suggest that the tanning effect of quebracho is both a function of quebracho/collagen interactions, and the filling effect of other components of the crude quebracho. Tests d'efficacitéIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Bovine raw hides are commercially cured either with high salt concentration of about half the weight of actual hide or 95% saturated brine solution. This conventional technique is very popular due to the availability of common salt (sodium chloride) and its cost-effective procedure but it generates a huge pollution problem increasing salinity. As a result, an alternative method of using less or no salt for hide preservation needs to be developed. For the preservation of hide it is essential to arrest microbial attack on hide as the main constituent of raw hide is protein which is very susceptible for bacterial degradation. Such bacterial degradation leads to the putrefaction of raw hide before converting them into leather. Agricultural Research Services scientists at Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania, have developed antiseptic based formulations for hide curing where only 45% saturated brine solution is used. The newly developed formulations have been found more effective in limiting microbial growth for a longer time on cured skin than the regular brine process and thus preserve hides for more than 30 days. In-process analysis of cured hides during storage period reveals the compatibility of the alternative curing process in comparison to the traditional method. Therefore, this new development will not only preserve hide through better protection from microorganisms but also offers improved conservation of the environment. Tannage au chromeIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : In this work, Piraiba and Daurade skin wastes were used for leather processing. They were initially stripped and characterized by their percentage composition. The results showed that pH, differential pH cipher [SLC13/ WC 111 BS 1309:9 — Determination of pH value and Difference Figure of an Advenus Extract], chromium content and mechanical properties after chromium tanning were in accord with leather specifications. Further results demonstrate that the tensile and tear strength of the leather varied depending on the direction of the collagen fibres. Microscopic analysis allowed us to verify that the fibre structure is interlaced and compact. This work also determined that the shrinkage temperatures, as measured by DSC were 98.24 and 104.06°C for Dourada and Piraiba leather, respectively, In conclusion, the characterization demonstrated the feasibility of using waste skins of Piraiba and Daurade for leather processing, adding value to a sub-product of fish processing. Five pieces of chrome-tanned goatskins were used in this study. Hair follicle patterns of butt, shoulder and belly locations for goatskins were observed by a digital microscope and were quantitatively estimated using K-function (L-function) method. As a result, a characteristic L-function for goatskin was observed. No individual differences in hair follicle patterns of goatskins were observed for both observation images and quantitative estimation. On the other hand, since the mean distance betWeen two hair follicles for belly location was longer than those for butt and shoulder locations, small location differences were observed for goatskins. However, for ail samples and locations, the L-function seemed low by comparison with random distribution within the region of the existence of three guard hair follicles. In conclusion, it was found that a characteristic L-function for the hair follicle patterns of goatskin was observed and the K-function (L-function) method becomes a useful tool to quantitatively estimate hair follicle patterns of goatskins. Especially, the influence of individual and location differences on the estimation of L-function was investigated. Five pieces of chrome-tanned sheepskins were used in this study. Hair follicle patterns of butt, shoulder and belly locations for sheepskins were observed by a digital microscope and were quantitatively estimated using K-function (L-function) method. As a result, it was found that the hair follicle patterns of sheepskins are defined as random distributions for all distances from the chosen sampling point, although they seemed to be regular distributions when observing them using a microscope. No individual and location differences in hair follicle patterns of sheepskins were observed for both observation images and quantitative estimation (L-function). It is concluded that quantitative estimations of hair follicle patterns by K-function (L-function) method is indispensable for the identification of leather materials, because judgments using both observation by a microscope and a statistical K-function (L-function) method give different results for the distribution of hair follicles for sheepskins. In the future, quantitative estimations of hair follicle patterns for a variety of leathers used in leather goods also need to be discussed. Note de contenu : - Leather sample
