VerreIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Octafluorocyclobutane and acrylic acid (C4F8-co-AA) are plasma copolymerized onto low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and glass slides under various pulsation periods of radio frequency pulsed plasma. The surface wettability of plasma polymer coating is traditionally considered as a substrate-independent property. The combined effect of ultrathin C4F8-co-AA coatings and LDPE substrate on surface wettability is presented. The high concentration of the carboxylic acid functional groups gives rise to hydrophilicity via lowering duty cycle, and substrate impact gives rise to hydrophobicity for ultrathin coatings. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and coating thickness measurements confirmed that the sudden increase in water contact angle for the lower duty cycle is influenced by the hydrophobic substrate for ultrathin polymer coatings. It is highlighted that the precise control over the surface wettability is attained by tuning the plasma parameters. The substrate-dependent wettability for flat substrate persisted for longer than 8 weeks, which demonstrates wetting stability for ultrathin coatings Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL SECTION : Materials - Plasma deposition - Characterization

Salissures biologiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In India, construction is the second largest economic activity alter agriculture. Construction accounts for nearly 65 per cent of the total investment in infrastructure and is expected to be the biggest beneficiary of the surge in infrastructure investment over the next five years. Investment in construction accounts for nearly 11 per cent of India's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). As opportunities in the sector continue to come to the fore, foreign direct investment has been moving upwards.
This article covers basic principles of two-component waterborne polyurethane coatings and its applications for both walls and floors in construction areas. It also presents the results based on intensive lab evaluations with different combinations of polyol dispersions and hydrophilic polyisocyanates for performance adjustment in order to meet different performance and cost requirements. The coatings can be easy-to-clean, anti-graffiti for the use of exterior/interior walls, interior walls for hospitals, schools & kindergartens, electronic plants, food processing workshops, kitchens, metro stations etc. It can also be used as topcoat of floor coatings for commercial and industrial areas with excellent abrasion resistance, scratch resistance & chemical resistance. The real life cases will be analyzed in this article as well.Note de contenu : - APPLICATIONS

Kapok Résumé : In this study, the effects of ultrasound on the bioscouring of cotton by alkaline pectinase were examined. Conventional alkaline scouring was considered as the control treatment, and two different sources of ultrasound, an ultrasonic bath and an ultrasonic homogeniser, were tested, along with the enzymatic scouring process. Results indicated a clear increase in the efficiency of the enzymatic scouring process when the ultrasonic homogeniser was used: wettability time and wicking distance after ultrasonic homogeniser-assisted bioscouring were much better than for enzymatic scouring without the use of ultrasound energy and almost the same as when conventional alkaline scouring was employed. Ultrasonic bath-assisted enzymatic bioscouring gave slightly better results than enzymatic scouring without sonication. Reasons for the difference in efficacy of the ultrasound sources were postulated. Weight loss was increased by the use of ultrasonic equipment during enzymatic scouring. Fabric thickness and fabric strength was not significantly affected by the scouring processes. The environmental impact of the processes was also monitored by chemical oxygen demand measurement of the treatment liquors. Conventional alkaline scouring resulted in the highest environmental impact. Ultrasonic homogeniser-assisted bioscouring also led to slightly higher chemical oxygen demand loads than other enzymatic processes owing to the more efficient removal of impurities. Revêtements anti-buée:Peinture anti-buéeIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Antifogging and/or superhydrophilic properties of coatings are widely exploited both in a laboratory environment and in industrial applications. Material choice for the production of the coatings is of vital importance for the final coating properties. Silver nanoparticles have been known to have antibacterial and fungicidal properties, which make them extremely useful in biomedical applications. Production of coatings that combine superhydrophilic and the unique properties of silver nanoparticles can be beneficial in numerous applications. Dual regime spray coating system allows for the production of a thin, uniformly distributed nanoparticle coating through droplet impact velocity and gas flow control. Silver nanoparticles of ~15 nm average diameter were synthesized and coated onto the glass substrate, which produced the top layer with strong superhydrophilic/antifogging properties with water contact angles of close to 6°. In addition, coated surfaces exhibited an increase in light transmission of ~0.7% in the 500–700 nm range. Note de contenu : - MATERIALS
