The leaves and bark that are by products of the responsibly farmed eucalyptus used in the manufacture of lyocell fibres were extracted with water to provide a source of natural colour. Lyocell fabric, which required minimal preparation, was screen printed with an aqueous paste containing only the extracted colour and a natural thickener to provide attractive golden-yellow prints. The printed fabrics demonstrated surprisingly good fastness towards light, washing and rubbing. A mordanting pretreatment of the lyocell with alum modified the colour of the naturally coloured prints to become stronger and duller, but provided no advantage in terms of technical performance. The outcome presents a potentially useful model for the development of sustainably coloured fashion textile products. Note de contenu : - Material

ViscoseIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : In this study, a novel process utilizing ozone was carried out for colour stripping of fabrics misprinted with reactive dyes in ink-jet machines. The results of ozone applications were compared with conventional colour stripping process performed by thiourea dioxide (TUDO) and soda ash. In trials, cotton-based and viscose-based woven fabrics were used as these fabrics were the most utilized at the textile mill in which this study was performed. Different ozone treatment times (30, 45, 60 or 90 min) were tested to find optimum process time and it was found that process times depended on fabric type. Particularly, colour stripping on high density and thick fabrics were harder than low density and thin fabric types. Fabric strengths, whiteness indexes and chemical oxygen demand (COD) values were measured. Also energy, chemical and water consumptions were calculated. Consequently, it was found that the reduction of the COD value of effluent was up to 98%. The calculations showed that the savings in time and cost in ozone treatment were up to 77%. Satisfactory colour stripping and tensile strengths were achieved. Note de contenu : - Process times - Whiteness indexes of the misprinted fabrics after different stripping treatments

Argile

Traction (mécanique)Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : The aim of this work was to assess the possibility of using a bentonite-type clay as a promising substitute for mordants in the natural dyeing of wool with madder. Wool yarn was treated with nanoclay by using three conventional methods of pretreatment (before dyeing), simultaneous dyeing with madder in the presence of clay, and aftertreatment (after dyeing). Madder was used as a natural source of colorant. The scientific methods employed in this study included Fourier Transform-infrared spectroscopy, ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy, moisture regain measurement, tensile strength tests, reflectance spectrophotometry, and fastness evaluation. The intensity of the major peaks in the Fourier Transform-infrared spectra of the nanoclay-treated wool yarn indicated chemical changes in the polypeptide functional groups in the wool structure. Madder exhibited higher dyeing properties on clay-pretreated samples compared with untreated wool. The results of colour measurements showed that the colour strength of the dyed samples improved with an increasing amount of clay in the pretreatment baths.

TissésIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Ecological nanosilver-based colours were biosynthesised from the heartwood of European yew (Taxus baccata) trees for the dyeing of flax woven fabrics through the implementation of in situ synthesis protocols. The produced lighter brown yellow to darker brown-yellow coloured nanosilver particles on flax woven fabrics were characterised in terms of morphological observations, metallic compositions, elemental mapping, chemical interactions, the presence of silver nanoparticle (AgNP) concentrations and colour characteristics with associated performances. The presence of AgNPs was clearly observed by morphological studies of the coloured substrates. Quantitative analysis of the products also confirmed the significant presence of AgNPs. The results demonstrate that the uniform dispersions and strong attachments of AgNPs in cellulosic flax woven fabrics are due to surface plasmon resonance characteristics. The incorporation of different concentrations of metallic AgNPs plays a significant role in producing versatile colour appearances on flax woven textiles with improved colour durability. The overall results offer new routes for sustainable structural colourants in the industrial dyeing of cellulosic materials.
