The contact angles of water and the decomposition rates of methylene blue on the anatase TiO2 photocatalytic thin films improved with the increasing duration of a tetraethyl orthotitanate (TEOT) hydrolysis, but they hardly changed for the longer duration. The reflectance of anatase TiO2 photocatalytic thin films coated on glass slide substrate surfaces was higher as the duration of a TEOT hydrolysis increased. Similar tendencies concerning hydrophilicity and transparency were recognized in cases of commercial dental mirror substrate surfaces. A hydrolysis of titanium alkoxide obtained superhydrophilic and antibacterial treatments with excellent transparency on commercial dental mirror substrate surfaces.

Note de contenu : - MATERIALS AND METHODS : Materials - Emulsion preparation - Emulsion droplet size measurement - Rheology - Texture profile analysis - Microscopy

Traction (mécanique)Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Multi-functional textiles have received much attention in the technical textile field for their novel functionalities available in a single substrate. Polyamide 66 (PA66), being an engineering polymer with excellent physio-mechanical properties, exhibits immense possibilities to be developed as a multifunctional textile substrate. In this work, multi-functional polyamide 66 (PA66) textiles equipped with enhanced electro-conductive, hydrophilic and flame-retardant properties were developed via in situ polymerization of pyrrole monomer onto the PA66 fabric surfaces. Meanwhile, various formulations comprised of phytic acid (PA), chitosan (CS), graphene oxide (GO) and Na-metaborate (B) along with the pyrrole also experimented with a goal to study the contribution of each compound onto the desired properties and finally, to come up with a suitable formulation. Among these formulations, only pyrrole containing formulation (i.e., PA66-PPy) demonstrated a significant improvement in all three desired functionalities, namely a noteworthy escalation in electrical conductivity (i.e., about a 43 times increase compared to the pure PA66), a semi-hydrophilic surface (i.e., water contact angle value was lowered from 124.3– 49.9°) and a substantial reduction in the peak heat release rate by 45%. Meanwhile, the formulation comprising both the pyrrole and phytic acid made the polyamide surface a super-hydrophilic one, whereas other formulations exhibited potential efficacy in attaining better flame retardancy, especially in terms of limiting oxygen index (LOI) values, vertical flame test data and char yield%. In recent years, the demand for guidewires with lower friction surfaces has arisen for medical applications. Among various surface lubrication strategies for guidewires, the most promising is the use of a hydrophilic coating. However, obtaining a hydrophilic coating on guidewires with strong adhesion remains difficult owing to the surface energy difference between the substrate and hydrophilic coating. Herein, we present a UV-curing semi-interpenetrating polymer network coating for medical thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU)-sheathed nitinol guidewires. A polyurethane acrylate (PUA) was synthesized and cured as a transition layer on the TPU substrate to provide strong adhesion. Then, polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) and polyethylene glycol diacrylate (PEGDA) permeated into the PUA layer and cured to form the composite coating. The PUA–PEGDA–PVP coating exhibited excellent lubricity and satisfactory adhesion force. The surface coefficient of friction decreased to approximately 0.02 after modification with the coating, and the coating was stable during long-term soaking in water and repeated friction. In vitro toxicity tests revealed that the coating had good biocompatibility. Thus, our PUA–PEGDA–PVP coating has the potential for application as super-lubricity guidewires and other medical devices. Afterwards, polyhexamethylene guanidine hydrochloride (PHMG) was chemically bonded with the resin through a reaction between the epoxy groups of the resin and the amino groups of PHMG to generate non-leaching and permanent antimicrobial acrylic coating. When the content of PHMG reaches 1.0 wt%, the inhibition factors against E. coli and S. aureus were respectively 99.992% and 99.994%, and the antimicrobial coating retains an excellent antimicrobial property even after being laundered with detergent solution. Moreover, the hydrophilicity of the antimicrobial coating was increased after the introduction of polar PHMG.
