The main steps included: leather metallographic sample preparation, sequential section images acquisition, registration and alignment, image preprocessing and 3D reconstruction. Metallographic sample preparation and layer-by-layer grinding methods were used to obtain sequential sections images. 3D-Doctor medical reconstruction software was used to implement the 3D reconstruction of leather fiber bundles. Features and cautions of each step were discussed, and some reconstruction results were displayed. Spectrométrie de masseIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : An analytical approach was developed for the simultaneous determination of the eight ethylene glycol ethers (EGEs) and esters (EGEEs) prohibited by European Union (EU) REACH regulation in leather samples. The analytes were extracted using methanol with ultrasonic assistance within 30 minutes. The extracts were cleaned up by passing the extraction solution through a cartridge containing alumina-N frits, and the eluate was injected into GC-MS which was fitted with a 60m length capillary DB-WAX column. Excellent separation of the eight EGEs/EGEEs was achieved by the capillary column within 25 minutes. The clean-up with Alumina-N cartridge presented desired efficiency for removing the co-extractives in the extracts. The major advantages of this method are the simplicity and accuracy. Limitation of the detection, linear range, and reproducibility of the method were evaluated. Average recoveries in the range of 91.7%-102.5% (RSD, <6.1 0/0) with detection limits at 3.09.4mg/kg for the eight targets were obtained. Analytical results showed that ethylene glycol dimethyl ether (EGDME), ethylene glycol ethyl ether (EGEE), and diethylene glycol dimethyl ether (DEGDME), were found in 22% of 95 leather samples at the concentration range of 35-82mg/kg, 12-285mg/kg and 28-66mg/kg, respectively, while the other five EGEs/EGEEs were not detected. Traction (mécanique)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Since leather is sold by the square foot, destructive tests lessen the square footage of the material and infringe on the leather manufacturer's total profit. Therefore there is a need for developing an instrument to perform nondestructive testing of the physical properties of leather. In this investigation, experiments were designed to pass leather test samples through a pair of rotational acoustic sensors, thereby enabling the collection of acoustic emission (AE) signals from both the grain and corium and provide a more accurate assessment of the quality of leather. Observations showed a strong correlation between the mechanical properties of leather and the corresponding cumulative acoustic energy. We also used this dynamic method to characterize the grain break of leather. Results showed that the difference in grain break could be determined form the amount of acoustic hits collected from moving the AE sensors over a leather sample. Observations showed the poorer the grain break ; the more AE energy was detected. Data also demonstrated that thicker samples tended to have poorer grain break. In short, this study demonstrated that the tensile strength, stiffness, toughness ans grain break could be nondestructively determined by measuring acoustic quantities with a pair of rotational sensors. The results showed that the residual epidermal matter was obviously removed from the surface of delimed pelt by pancreatin in the normal bating process and this action will be strengthened by both an increase of the amount of pancreatin and by prolonging the bating time.
