(Wikipedia)

Bio-based precursor, epoxy-functionalized tung oil (ETO) was synthesized using glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) and tung oil via a Diels–Alder reaction according to our previous work. The new ETO-diamine-cured systems were prepared with the equivalent molar ratio at room temperature. ETO was cured with acyclic aliphatic (Jeffamine D400) and cyclic aliphatic (Epicure 3300) amines, at four temperatures ranging from 25 to 150°C. The coatings were then compared in terms of their thermal and mechanical properties. The cured coatings were analyzed by IR, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and gel content tests. TGA analysis showed that the epoxide-diamine polymers demonstrated thermal stability up to 170°C. The mechanical properties of the films were investigated by pendulum hardness, pencil hardness, cross-hatch adhesion, pull-off adhesion, impact resistance, reverse resistance, and chemical resistance testing. While all the cured systems exhibited good pencil hardness, cross-hatch adhesion, impact resistance, and reverse resistance properties, the epoxide-acyclic diamine system demonstrated greater pendulum hardness and notable pull-off adhesion at 150°C. The research demonstrates the potential for greener and more reactive tung oil-based epoxide coatings with enhanced properties. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL :

Revêtements -- Propriétés mécaniquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A key engineering parameter of thin coatings is their stiffness. Stiffness characterization of ultrathin coatings with a nanometer scale thickness is experimentally challenging. In this work, three feasible methods have been used to estimate the Young’s modulus of metal coatings on polymer films. The methods are: (1) nanoindentation, (2) strain-induced elastic buckling and (3) peak-force measurements integrated in atomic force microscopy. The samples were prepared by atomic layer deposition of TiO2 (6 and 20 nm thick) and mixed oxides of TiO2 and Al2O3 (4 and 20 nm thick). The differences in estimated Young’s modulus are interpreted in terms of the underlying assumptions and test conditions. Their specific advantages and drawbacks are also compared and discussed. In particular, the nanoindentation necessitates a sufficiently sharp indenter tip to make localized measurements dominated by the coating. The strain-induced elastic buckling method is simple in practice, but showed a large scatter due to variation in local coating thickness and irregular deformation patterns. The stiffness characterization using atomic force microscopy gave the most consistent results, due to a sharp tip with a radius comparable to the thinnest coating thickness. All methods gave a higher Young’s modulus for the TiO2 coating than for the mixed oxide coating, with a variation within one order of magnitude between the methods.
Toiture -- RevêtementsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Low-density hollow microspheres as fil-ers in elastomeric waterproof/cool roof coatings can enhance a number of key properties. Compared with their minerai counterparts, Iow-density fillers help re-duce the weight of the coating and pro-vide a relatively strong boost to solar reflectance, reducing both the exterior surface temperature and the need for air-conditioning. Some coatings produc¬ers claim that hollow microspheres, and especially resilient hollow thermoplas¬tic microspheres, also help maintain the elastomeric properties of the binder in filled coatings.
les polyoléfines thermoplastiques semi-cristallines : polyéthylène (PE), polypropylène (PP), polyméthylpentène (PMP), polybutène-1 (PB-1) ;

However, their low surface energy makes fabricating composites and applying coatings challenging. Therefore, various surface treatments have been utilized to enhance their adhesion properties. In this paper, the surface energies of various thermoplastic polyolefins (TPO) have been measured via Inverse Gas Chromatography (IGC). These surface energy values were correlated to mechanical adhesion testing of the painted polyolefins. The adhesive integrity of the painted TPO was determined by applying a comprehensive-shear load to the material. Higher surface energies measured by IGC lead to increased adhesion with the paint. The surface energies also correlate with TPO crystallinity, as determined by microhardness testing of the unpainted TPO. Revêtements protecteursIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The aim of this work was to describe polyaniline salts synthesized and to assess the mechanical and anticorrosion properties of alkyd resin-based coating materials pigmented with them, in dependence on the pigment volume concentration and type. Polyaniline salts were prepared by oxidative polymerization in the solutions of inorganic (hydrochloric, phosphoric, and sulfuric) and organic (p-toluenesulfonic and 5-sulfosalicylic) acids. Polyaniline salts were characterized by thermal analysis and spectroscopic methods. Electrical conductivity was also measured by the van der Pauw method, and the molecular weight of the polyaniline was determined by gel permeation chromatography. Furthermore, the particle size of the solid salts was measured, and the morphology was studied by scanning electron microscopy. Subsequently, the parameters required to formulate pigmented organic coatings, i.e., density and critical pigment volume concentration were determined. A soybean oil-based fast drying alkyd resin of medium oil length was used as the binder for the organic coating material. Organic coatings containing the polyaniline salts at pigment volume concentrations 0%, 1%, 5%, 10%, and 15% were formulated and subjected to a standard accelerated cyclic corrosion tests. The organic coatings (paint films) were also subjected to mechanical tests and to the electrochemical test by potentiodynamic polarization studies.
