Hexa(methoxy-methyl)melamine (HMMM) and tetra (methoxymethyl)melamine (TMMM) were used as crosslinking agents for the polyester resin.
The process of the polyester/melamine system crosslinking was studied by sol-gel analysis and ATR-FTIR Spectroscopy. The castings with TMMM differed from the coatings with HMMM, the latter having improved hardness, MEK resistance and higher glass transition temperature. However, they were inferior in terms of elasticity and adhesion. The necessary balance of ail the above-men-tioned physical and mechanical properties was obtained for the films with the methoxy/ hydroxy-group ratio of 3,4 for HMMM and 2.3 for TMMM.

Sol-gel, ProcédéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The effect of alcohol- and amino-functional compatibilizers in nanocomposites of organic–inorganic (O–I) matrices with layered nanofillers (LN) was studied. The alcohol-functional compatibilizers are shown to have a marked influence on morphology, surface- and mechanical properties of the coatings prepared, in spite of the very small amount of both filler and compatibilizer (together 0.5 wt%). The studied O–I matrices were polyepoxy-functional polysiloxanes cured with organic diamines. Two commercial clays were used as LN in the concentration of 0.5 wt%: natural montmorillonite (Cloisite Na, abbreviated MNa) and Bentonite for water systems (BW). These clays were compatibilized by three hydroxyl-containing substances: Polyethylene glycol 4000, TWEEN 80, and tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane (TRIS). All compatibilizers improve the dispersion of the clay fillers, while TRIS always supports full exfoliation. They also cause an increase in the microroughness of the coatings and strongly modify their large-scale surface patterns. Mechanical properties are also strongly affected by the compatibilizers: toughness is increased, sometimes markedly, as well as stress at break. Tensile and shear moduli are reduced by the compatibilizers, while the glass transition temperature is specifically shifted to higher or lower values, sometimes markedly. Surface‐modified polyester fibre was prepared either by oxygen plasma treatment or with a sol‐gel method using 3‐aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APS). The surface‐modified polyester fibre was dip‐coated with 20 wt.% water suspension of uniform‐sized silica particles with a diameter of 300 nm and then it was dried. Hexagonal and square arrangements were observed for the particles deposited on the fibre surface by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The crystallinity of deposited particles was estimated with the number ratio of arranged particles to all particles in the SEM image. On the plasma‐treated fibre, the crystallinity of deposited particles was 82% and the ratio of hexagonal arrangement to square arrangement was 3:1. On the APS‐treated fibre, crystallinity was 56% and the ratio was 1:8. The fibre‐fabricated colloidal crystal exhibited red colour on its surface and it had a peak wavelength of 637 nm in the reflection spectrum. Note de contenu : - Materials

They have huge potential as photocatalysts for polymer crosslinking and modification, and can be used for photocuring systems for epoxy compounds and for photoinduced imidisation polyamic acid in the coatings and microelectronic industries. PBGs are easy to activate in the case of compounds that have active protons, e.g. thiols and carboxylic acids. Note de contenu : - TYPES OF PBG

ViscositéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Polyethylene glycol (PEG) was added during the sol process of sol–gel SiO2 coating preparation to investigate the effect of PEG addition timing on particle growth, sol structure, and coating properties. When PEG was added before the addition of the catalyst, the particle size increased from 10 nm (in sol without PEG) to 20 nm, and the necessary aging time for dip coating was shortened from 5 days (in sol without PEG) to ~30 h. When PEG was added 24 h later than the catalyst, the uniform sol structure and small particle unit were obtained. With the delay of the PEG addition timing to 120 h, the improvement in the homogeneity of the sol was continued, whereas the porosity of the resulting coatings decreased. The refractive index of PEG-modified SiO2 coatings can be adjusted in a continuous range between 1.14 and 1.20, using the timing when the PEG was added. The highest peak transmittance of glass that was coated with PEG-modified silica coatings reached 99.90%. All the coatings can be changed from hydrophilic to hydrophobic after hexamethyldisilazane vapor modification. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Preparation of SiO2 sols and coatings
