Enhancement of anticorrosion protection via inhibitor-loaded ZnAlCe-LDH nanocontainers embedded in sol–gel coatings / You Zhang in JOURNAL OF COATINGS TECHNOLOGY AND RESEARCH, Vol. 15, N° 2 (03/2018)
[article]
Titre : Enhancement of anticorrosion protection via inhibitor-loaded ZnAlCe-LDH nanocontainers embedded in sol–gel coatings Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : You Zhang, Auteur ; Peihang Yu, Auteur ; Junjie Wu, Auteur ; Fei Chen, Auteur ; Yindong Li, Auteur ; Yulin Zhang, Auteur ; You Zuo, Auteur ; Yangaolin Qi, Auteur Année de publication : 2018 Article en page(s) : p. 303-313 Note générale : Bibliogr.

Vanadate and molybdate were used as guest inhibitors intercalating in the interlayer galleries of ZnAlCe-LDHs. The samples were characterized in terms of morphology, structure, and release behavior by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and inductively coupled plasma (ICP) techniques. To investigate inhibition behavior, the LDHs particles were embedded in a hybrid sol–gel (SiO x /ZrO x ) layer on aluminum alloy 2024 measured by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The EIS results show that the sol–gel coating with inhibitor-loaded ZnAlCe-LDH particles exhibits high corrosion resistance due to the active inhibition by the dissolution of ZnAlCe-LDHs and inhibitor anions and the exchange behavior of LDHs. Compared with the addition of ZnAlCe-MoO4-LDHs, the coating embedded with ZnAlCe-V2O7-LDHs exhibited better anticorrosion abilities and provided effective protection after a long immersion time. Sol-gel, ProcédéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Protection of aluminum metal and its alloys from corrosion is a key requirement for many engineering applications. Nowadays, sol–gel coating technology is recognized as the ideal replacement for chromate conversion coatings. The present work makes use of 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GPTMS) as a precursor for sol–gel coating. GPTMS was subjected to hydrolysis and subsequent condensation reaction to get a three-dimensional network and methylthiourea (MTU) was incorporated into the sol–gel matrix. MTU-doped GPTMS-based sol–gel coatings were applied over aluminum metal by dip coating method. The resultant coating was studied by FTIR, XRD and SEM. MTU-doped GPTMS-based sol–gel coatings increased the hydrophobic nature of the coating and were stable up to a temperature of 450°C. The protective nature of the coatings was evaluated in a 1% NaCl environment using electrochemical impedance and polarization studies. The study has revealed that doping of MTU enhanced the protection ability of doped GPTMS-based sol–gel coating to a significant extent.
Note de contenu : - Pourquoi des films mésoporeux ?

Characterization of curcumin extracts was carried out using integral analyses, namely FTIR, NMR, DSC, TGA, total phenolic content, and antioxidant assay. Corrosion-inhibitive ability of coatings doped with curcumin extracts (25, 50, 75, and 100 ppm) were evaluated via electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and potentiodynamic polarization measurements. It was evident that sol–gel incorporated with 100 ppm ethanol extract provided more than 90% of inhibition efficiency. Coated mild steel surfaces were characterized using FTIR, SEM/EDX, and water contact angle analysis where coatings incorporated with curcumin extracts were found to be hydrophobic (θ = 100.2°).
