Traîtements de surfaceIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Atmospheric pressure plasma treatment modifies the surface of textile materials at nano level. The effectiveness of plasma surface modification is closely associated with fabric weave construction and surface structure. Adhesion properties of three different polypropylene (PP) fabrics with a polyurethane (PU) coating have been investigated with respect to different plasma treatment time and power. Peel off strength was measured as the separation force required to separate coating layer from fabric. Statistical analysis of the peel off strength was performed by ANOVA. A substantial increase in adhesion of PU on plasma-treated samples was observed. Various characterization techniques such as contact angle, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and tensile measurement were used to inspect hydrophilicity, surface chemistry, surface morphology and physical properties of PP fabrics, respectively. As evident from results captured using various characterization techniques, atmospheric pressure plasma treatment enhances the surface properties (hydprophilicity, surface morophology and surface chemistry) without affecting the bulk (tensile strength) properties. It is shown that the plasma treatment parameters as well as the textile structure play an important role in adhesion improvement. Further, it is observed that the effectiveness of the plasma treatment is closely linked to the structure of the textiles fabrics. Natural oils are considered to be the most important class of renewable sources. They can be obtained from naturally occurring plants, such as sunflower, neem, cotton, linseed. They consist predominantly of triglycerides. To demonstrate the applicability of neem oil in modern paint formulations, we prepareD a long nee oil alkyd resin, which is the work horse of the paint industry, followed by treatment of the polymer with Toluene di-isocyanate to form a poly urethane polymer. VernisIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Newly synthesized polycarbonate diols containing hindered urea (PCD-HUs) were employed to modify the scratch-healing properties of conventional two-component clearcoats. To elucidate their contributions to the crosslinking properties of the coatings under conventional thermal curing (150°C), the real-time rheological properties of the clearcoat mixtures were measured using a rotational rheometer in the small-amplitude oscillatory shear mode. A dynamic mechanical analysis was carried out to compare the thermomechanical properties of the cured clearcoat free films. PCD-HU, a key component for the tuning of the scratch-healing, was further identified by analyzing the clearcoat layer cured over a phosphated metal substrate with undercoats such as primer and basecoat as a precoated metal (PCM) sheet. Elastic recovery and scratch profiles of the outermost clearcoat layer in the PCM sheet were acquired through nano-indentation and nano-scratch tests by gradually increasing the quantitative normal force. Finally, the healing patterns of the scratches on various clearcoat layers at a certain normal force were visualized by three-dimensional and one-dimensional cross-cut images using atomic force microscopy under specified temperature and healing time conditions. The surface durability provided by the PCD-HU in the clearcoat layer was confirmed by repeated scratching and healing tests on the same surface positions. Therefore, the coating layer containing HU, which possessed similar surface mechanical properties to those of conventional references, exhibited better scratch-healing performance. The effects of the levels of silicone monomer and hydroxyl values on the film properties of the 2K WBPU coatings were investigated. Infrared spectroscopy characterized its structure. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) were used to study the surface morphology and the thermal stability of the film. The results showed that the performance of the coatings and the thermal stability of the film of 2K WBPU were improved after silicone modification. Tannage organiqueIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : A kind of Y-shaped amphiphilic block polyurethane copolymers (PUGs) with different molecular weights were successfully synthesized to be used as retanning agent combined with polyacrylic acid (PAA) for modified glutaraldehyde tanned goatskin. The structures of resulting products were characterized by FTIR, and the molecular weights of products were measured with GPC. The application performances were investigated by measuring the organoleptic and physical mechanical properties of resulting leathers according to the alone or combined use of PUG and PAA, the molecular weight of PUG, and the offer percentage of retanning agent. The best performance was found in the leather retanned by PUG750 and PAA complex retanning agent at the total offer percentage of 4 wt%. Finally, the free formaldehyde contents in the leathers retanned with 4 wt% PUG750 and PAA at different pH conditions were analyzed with acetyl acetone colorimetric method. The mechanical properties as well as the fibers morphologies of the experimental and control groups were also investigated. The results demonstrated that when the pH value at the later stage of retanning process was controlled at 4.0 or 3.0, the free formaldehyde content was significantly reduced by 20.3% or 38% respectively ; and the physical mechanical properties of leathers were also very excellent to meet the performance requirements of goatskin garment leathers. According to these results, the method for using PUG and PAA as a complex retanning agent might be a good choice in chrome-free tanning process.
