Résumé : |
High demand for high-volume SUVs and stricter CO2 regulations have forced new developments. Exterior parts should be light, functional and efficient. In addition to its product portfolio, Magna Exteriors has therefore also expanded its machine park to include manufacturing processes such as a new joining process in order to be able to offer a multi-material process mix. |
Note de contenu : |
- Liftgate inner panel produced with long glass fiber polypropylene
- Investment into thermoplastic foaming processes
- Working with aerodynamics
- Fig. 1 : Liftgate with lock and hinge sheet and liftgate with composite frame
- Fig. 2 : A new glass fiber winding machine enables light and stable frame construction. Glass fibers are wound around a polyurethane core and impregnated in HP RTM process
- Fig. 3 : Cross section of a foamed thermoplastic part
- Fig. 4 : The carbon fiber subframe is the result of a research and development project between Magna and Ford. The companies investigated technical challenges in the use of CF composites in chassis applications
- Fig. 5 : The visible active grille shutter made of carbon fiber sheet molded compounds has reduced weight and the number of the components
- Fig. 6 : Further examples of active aerodynamic parts, including an active air deflector/spoiler and an active rocker panel |
