Characterization of the experimental resins, in respect to physical properties, was carried out using instruments such as a vapor pressure osmometer, rotational viscometer, universal tensile testing instrument (Instron 1123), and differential scanning calorimeter. Performance of the resins was evaluated using a fluorescent UV accelerated weatherometer and multi-head glossmeter. The results reveal substantial improvement in drying and weather resistance properties of castor oil alkyd on graft copolymerization with both methyl methacrylate and butyl methacrylate. The improvement in these properties is marginally superior in the case of MMA grafted alkyds. MMA modification also enhances the mechanical properties of the grafted castor oil alkyd. The influence of synthesis variables, including monomer concentration, initiator selection and temperature, have been investigated. As the graft polymerization of HEMA onto chrome-
tanned leather was increased, water absorption was reduced and tensile strength and elongation at break improved.
FT-IR spectroscopic analysis of ungrafted and grafted leather showed a band at 1735 cm-1 corresponding to the carbonyl of the ester of acrylate (HEMA), while subsequent SEM analysis revealed a decrease in the porosity of the leather surface as a result of the graft polymerization.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES :

Moreover, the cardanol grafted onto PP could resolve the degradation of PP during the process of reactive extrusion, storage and application. In this paper, the yield strength, tensile strength, elongation at break of modified and unmodified PPs were tested during the aging process. A possible aging mechanim of PP and anti-aging mechanism of cardanol grafted onto PP were proposed. Results showed that the initiator dicumyl peroxide caused the degradation of PP chains during the aging processing. After being aged for 24 h, the yield strength CAPP0 decreased from 28 MPa to 15 MPa and the elongation at break reduced by 795%. CAPPs possessed outstanding anti-aging performance owing to the cross-linking and entanglement of the side chains of cardanol grafted onto PP. The yield strength, tensile strength and the elongation at break of CAPP5 changed lightly even when it was in long-term irradiation for 480 h. The CAPPs had better anti-aging properties than the mixture of PP and 5% of cardanol. CAPP containing 3% of cardanol could effectively prevent the degradation of the main chain polypropylene.

Revêtements anti-graffitisIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The novel polymethylsiloxane grafted by fluorocarbon side chains was synthesized via hydrosilylation reaction of polymethylhydrosiloxane (PMHS) with 2,2,3,4,4,4-hexafluorobutyl acrylate (HFBA) in the presence of Karstedt’s catalyst. The reaction factors of reaction temperature, reaction time, catalyst dosage, solvent dosage, and molar ratio of the reactants were investigated through orthogonal experiments. Under optimal conditions, the grafting ratio of HFBA to PMHS reached 91.6%. The structure of the grafted polymer was characterized by FTIR and 1H NMR spectra. The synthesized polymer was incorporated into two-component polyurethane coating formulations as an additive to prepare antigraffiti coatings. After curing, the contact angle measurement was performed and the results showed that surface free energy of the coating film decreased dramatically from 30.7 to 21.4 mJ/m2. The inks of permanent markers cannot spread readily on the coating film and can be removed easily, indicating that the incorporation of the synthesized polymer endowed the coating with admirable antigraffiti performance. XPS analysis revealed that atomic concentrations of silicon and fluorine near the surface (about 10 nm) were much higher than deeper within the film (about 100 nm), suggesting that these two elements had a strong migration tendency toward the coating–air interface. AFM measurement showed that the inclusion of synthesized polymer in coating did not affect the surface roughness of the film.
