Ongles -- Analyse
Peau -- Soins et hygièneIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : Roelmi HPC has designed specific ingredients to improve the skin ecosystem and to counteract skin discomforts through topical applications.
The human skin microbiota, with its complexity and variability, has become a touchstone for cosmetic research teams, opening various scenarios to be considered before the launch of a new product. Nowadays, understanding the skin microbiota and how to maintain its delicate balance is an essential step to gain insight into the mechanisms responsible for healthy skin appearance.
In fact, cosmetic formulations have greatly broadened their role on the skin: the interactions to be considered have become multiple and complex - not only related to the epidermis, but also with the microbial community present on the skin, which are very different between individuals and subject to numerous stresses.
Thus, active ingredients have expanded their effectiveness, taking into account also skin microorganisms, bacteria, fungi and more, including - probably - things that have yet to be considered. The same applies to functional ingredients and even more to preservatives created to keep cells under control, and similar to those of the skin microbiota and that could, if not dosed correctly, affect the balance and health of the skin.
The 'microbiome-friendly' cosmetics trend is therefore gaining ground, and reaching new product categories. An increasing number of consumers seem to understand the importance of bacteria for the beauty of their health or skin. In light of this, brands have developed their product ranges and scientific knowledge on this issue, while cosmetic chemical manufacturers have broadened their offering based on fermented actives.Note de contenu : - Biotech postbiotic as a guardian for skin microbiota

Index. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : - Objective : The development of dry skin is a complex process, with a wide variety of factors each playing different roles in its evolution. Given this, it is important when designing a formulation to tackle dry skin that these varied aspects of skin behaviour are addressed. Presented here are the results of a 3-week moisturization study carried out on dry legs. A wide range of traditional and more recently developed biophysical measurement methods have been combined with visual assessment of skin condition to enable multiple aspects of skin function to be determined. The observed changes in the skin are discussed in terms of the ingredients used in the moisturizing formulation.
- Methods : A range of novel and traditional skin assessment methods and techniques were used to assess the effects of an oil in water-based moisturizing product compared to an untreated site during a 3-week in vivo study on dry lower leg skin.
Results : Statistically significant improvements were observed in a range of skin parameters as a result of product usage. Skin hydration assessed using Corneometer®, Epsilon® and visual dry skin grading all increased after 3 weeks of use. Skin barrier function measured using transepidermal water loss also improved. Levels of cholesterol, free fatty acids and Ceramide NH increased, as well as the average length of the stratum corneum (SC) lipid lamella bilayers, and the ratio of lipid to protein increased (measured using Lipbarvis® and in vivo Confocal Raman Spectroscopy). Increases in the levels of Ceramide EOS and NP were also observed, along with an improvement in corneocyte maturity, although these were not statistically significant.
- Conclusions : Using a variety of traditional and novel skin assessment techniques, a wide range of factors associated with the evolution of dry skin have been assessed upon treatment with a new topical moisturizer. Product usage resulted in significant improvements to skin hydration and barrier function, the levels and morphology of SC barrier lipids, and overall epidermal differentiation. As a result there was a significant reduction in the characteristics associated with the development of dry skin after use of the test product.Note de contenu : - Table 1 : Differences to baseline and between the treated and untreated sites for the hydration measures and assessments throughout the study (Week 1, 2 and 3 – W1, W2 and W3). Also shown are the differences between the treated and untreated sites. Statistical differences (paired t-test) with >95% significance are shown in bold
- Table 2 : Differences to baseline and between the treated and untreated sites at the end of Week 3 for SC barrier function, Confocal Raman Spectroscopy parameters (SC/SD thickness and lipid to protein ratio), Lipbarvis ® SC lipid levels and lamella bilayer length, and corneocyte maturity. Also shown are the differences between the treated and untreated sites at the end of the study. Data given to 2 decimal points where available.
(Wikipedia)
Ingrédients cosmétiques
Peau -- Soins et hygièneIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : Today's beauty consumer demands sustainable, animal-free, and performance driven products. These shifting sentiments put active ingredients in the spotlight and demand innovation. Biodesign is rising to the challenge. This approach to product development combines advances in computational biology and precision fermentation to deliver the best of nature's depth and diversity to consumers. White many are familiar with biotechnology's first breakthrough ingredient — hyaluronic acid (HA) — proteins like collagen have rapidly emerged as the pioneering products enabled by biodesign.
HA from microbial fermentation paved the way for future fermentation-derived bioactive ingredients. In 1998 scientists at Savient Pharmaceuticals successfully produced high molecular weight HA, historically sourced from rooster combs, through precision fermentation of the microorganism Streptococcus zooepidemicus' Biotechnology unlocked the potential to create sustainable alternatives to animal-derived molecules that eliminate unethical practices, complicated supply chains, and the use of environmentally harsh chemical processes.
Collagen is another popular ingredient in beauty and an important target for biodesign as it is the most abundant protein in the human body, responsible for structure, stability, and strength within the dermal layers. In addition to its essential structural function, collagen is a signaling molecule defining cellular activities.
There are at least 28 types of collagen identified in the body, all sharing a common triple helix structure yet differing in a- chain composition.Note de contenu : - ECM stimulation - in vitro
