RhéologieIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Porous polymer sheets created by the “solid state microcellular foaming process” possess an impermeable solid skin on the boundary. In order to experimentally determine the internal structure's fluid permeability, the skin is removed by machining a pattern of holes or channels so that fluid flow can be established when applying a pressure difference across the faces. In this work, a fluid flow model for this particular geometry assuming a Newtonian fluid and isotropic internal porous structure is established. This yields formulae used to compute the structure's Darcy permeability from experimental flow data. Experimental verification of the model is provided for a sample of Polyetherimide (PEI) nanoporous polymer sheet whose skin was drilled in various hole patterns, thus establishing the mathematical foundation for future work in investigating this class of porous materials.
Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The morphology of nanoporous nickel phosphate (NP) has a close relationship with its properties, so in this work NP with needle-like and mushroom-like shape was synthesized. Then NP with needle-like and mushroom-like shape was applied in intumescent flame retardant polypropylene (PP) composites. With the addition of suitable content of NP, both mushroom-like and needle-like NP can improve the combustion and thermal properties of intumescent flame retardant PP composites. Needle-like NP shows a better thermal ant flame retardant synergist effect with intumescent flame retardants compared to mushroom-like NP. However, mushroom-like NP shows a better effect on smoke suppression. With the addition of suitable content of needle-like NP, the peak heat release rate of flame retardant PP composite decreases by 68.2 % comparing with that of the pure PP, and decreases by 23.8 % comparing with that of flame retardant PP composite without NP. The maximum weight loss temperature of PP composites can be increased from 408 °C to 485 °C with the addition of needle-like NP. Furthermore, the pyrolysis products of flame retardant PP composite with needle-like NP were investigated. From the research, it provides a further understanding of the influence on synergic effects in intumescent flame retardant systems. Matériaux poreuxTags : 'Matériaux poreux multiphases' 'Technique de champ moyen' 'Homogénéisation numérique multi-échelle' 'Module Young effectif' 'Modèle forme multipore' Résumé : Transversal cross-section pores of lotus-type porous materials are generally considered circular ; however, they exhibit various pore geometries, which affect their effective properties. The main objective of this work is to develop a generalized model which allows estimating the effective Young’s modulus of multi-void shape porous microstructures by exploiting a relationship developed to evaluate the effective Young’s modulus of porous materials with single-void shape. A procedure based on free software is then proposed to allow the application of the proposed generalized model on real lotus-type porous material images to estimate the effective Young’s modulus. The free tool allows the processing of real porous materials images to obtain multi-void shape microstructures and their pores parameters data. The validation of the generalized model has been established by confronting the obtained results with experimental data taken from literature; an excellent agreement was observed. Therefore, it can be concluded that the proposed procedure associated with the generalized model can be used efficiently for predicting the effective Young’s modulus of the multi-void porous materials, particularly lotus-type porous materials. ThermogravimétrieRésumé : The high cost of polymer precursors, usage of organic solvents and/or energy consumption during carbonization post-processes has limited the use of carbon fiber systems for every day applications. Here, nonwoven nanofiber mats are developed utilizing the Forcespinning technology and subsequently exposed to acid vapor induced dehydration and low temperature carbonization (T < 800 °C) processes to produce multifunctional fine carbon fibers. This method allows for the production of highly porous nonwoven carbon cloths or yarns with micro- and mesoporosity. The fiber diameter can be tuned in the range of hundreds of nanometers to several microns. Thermophysical and microstructural characterization indicate graphitic formation due to carbonization that occurs during the chemical and heat treatment. The developed system shows high electrical conductivity, high surface area, thermal stability, hydrophobicity, and oleophilic behavior.
