Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Hydrogen peroxide can be catalysed to bleach cotton fibres at a temperature of 70 °C by incorporating the copper-based catalyst [Cu(TPMA)Cl]ClO4·1/2H2O in the bleaching solution. The effects of pH, temperature, and concentration of catalyst and hydrogen peroxide on bleaching effectiveness were evaluated. The effects of other transition metal complexes of tris(2-pyridylmethyl)amine were also examined. The bleaching mechanism was investigated by studying the active species. The results showed that a satisfactory whiteness index could be obtained at low temperature with the copper-based catalyst, and it also had a competitive advantage in protecting cellulose from severe chemical damage. Cu(i)TPMA(OOH)? was the active species in bleaching. In this study, a binuclear manganese complex of the ligand 1,4,7-trimethyl-1,4,7-triazacyclononane as the catalyst for hydrogen peroxide bleaching was synthesised via a simplified method. Low-temperature bleaching of cotton fabric with the manganese complex and the effect of key bleaching variables on the bleaching performance were investigated. Hydrogen peroxide could be catalysed to bleach cotton knitted fabric at a temperature as low as 60 °C by incorporating the complex in the bleaching solution. The whiteness index of the fabric bleached at low temperature was lower than that of fabric bleached at high temperature, but the bursting strength retention is much better for the fabric bleached at low temperature. The low temperature is energy-saving and has environment-friendly advantages over the traditional high-temperature method. SurcyclageIndex. décimale : 677.4 Textiles artificiels Résumé : The recycling of textile waste i.e. pre/post-consumer textile waste (PCW) is a need of the hour. Upcycling textile products often involves the use of chemical and mechanical recycling. The market acceptance of yarns and products made from mechanically recycled PCW is a major concern because of the products harsh touch and feel, low quality parameters, and poor appearance due to its high short fiber content. There is a wealth of research and review papers available on PCW fiber in blends with cotton and polyester fiber. Continual R&D at TRADC (Textile Research and Application Development Center, Birla Cellulose) serves to enhance the quality parameters of mechanically recycled PCW blended yarn. This research paper reports on the sustainable MMCF (man-made cellulosic fiber) lyocell fiber (Birla Excel) blended with PCW fiber. A study was conducted on the effectivity of fiber length distribution and fiber fineness on yarn quality parameters, lyocell fiber and PCW blended (70:30) ratio. Note de contenu : - Yarn quality

vision des couleursIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : For the first time, the natural anthocyanin dyes (mainly consisting of cyanidine 3-glycoside) extracted from mulberry (Morus rubra) fruits has been successfully used to dye cotton fabric, with a dyeing property performance good enough for potential commercial applications. In this study, succinic acid was firstly incorporated into cotton fabrics by esterification to the hydroxyl groups of cellulose, forming an anionic site for the dyes. The performance of the modified material was characterised by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and tensile strength. Results showed that the tensile strength of cotton fabrics was mostly retained after modification. The anthocyanin extracts from mulberry fruits were used to study the dyeability of the control and modified cotton fabrics. Red and deep purple (aubergine) are two main shades of cotton fabrics dyed with mulberry fruit extracts. Most importantly, aubergine shade is rare in cotton fabrics dyed with natural dyes. Modification with succinic acid clearly increased the colour strength of the dyed cotton fabric. The colour strength of dyed cotton fabric was improved from 2.7 to 5.3 in the case of dyeing without mordants, and from 3.2 to 6.9 in the case of dyeing with tin mordanting. Meanwhile, the colour fastness was improved by 0.5–2 grades with increasing succinic acid concentration in the finish solution. The colour fastness to perspiration, crocking, light, and washing of fabric dyed with simultaneous tin mordanting and modified with 30 g l?1 of succinic acid was found to be acceptable, with a grey scale grade of at least 3. As for home laundering, neutral soapy solution was more acceptable than alkaline soapy solution.
