The transfer paper was prepared by coating mixed polysaccharide thickeners composed of adhesive high‐substituted hydroxypropyl cellulose (H‐HPC) and another thickener, either sodium alginate (SA), carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC), guar gum (SG‐9) or carboxymethyl starch (SG‐24). Patterns on the transfer paper were obtained by means of ink‐jet. The thermal plasticity of H‐HPC was observed and 120 °C was determined as the adhesion temperature. Rheological testing of all the thickeners verified that their shear‐thinning behaviour favoured successful coating. By comparing the effects of different mixed thickeners on the prints’ quality with regard to colour depth, sharpness, colour fastness and handle, it was concluded that the colour depth depended on the adhesion extent and reactivity between the thickener and reactive dye. Using H‐HPC/SA and H‐HPC/HEC produced the highest and lowest colour depths, respectively. The sharpness was visibly influenced by the different mixed thickeners. A clear pattern was achieved when the other thickener was CMC, SG‐9 or SG‐24. Both the colour fastness and handle were desirable, irrespective of the mixed thickeners used. Durable ultraviolet (UV)-protective cotton fabric has great application potential in outdoor cotton clothing. In this study, oppositely charged TiO2 nanoparticles were deposited onto cotton fabric through the layer-by-layer self-assembly technique, resulting in multilayer films with UV-protective properties. The mechanism of the technology has been investigated through characterization of the structure and properties using different techniques including FTIR, UV–Vis spectroscopy, and a scanning electron microscope with an energy-dispersive X-ray spectrum. The results showed that TiO2 nanoparticles distributed uniformly on the surface of cotton fibers. The TGA results indicated that the TiO2 nanoparticles deposit on cotton fabrics had little effect on the thermal stability of cotton fabrics. The tensile strength and air permeability of the cotton samples were tested by a universal material testing machine and automatic ventilation instrument. The UV protection property of cotton fabric after assembled multilayer films was measured by an ultraviolet transmittance analyzer, and the laundering experiments were carried out to determine the durability of TiO2 nanoparticles on cotton fabric. The results showed that the UV protection property of cotton fabrics after assembled TiO2 nanoparticles was still maintained at a high level after five launderings.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Materials - Preparation of TiO2 nanoparticle suspension - Pretreatment of cotton fabrics - Multilayer assembly on cotton fabrics - Measurements and characterization

A series of dyeing auxiliaries were examined, and results showed that a composite auxiliary agent consisting of 20 g/l of zinc nitrate and 30 g/l of dicyandiamide was the most effective when a conventional pad-dry-cure dyeing process was used. The fixation could reach 99% and the wash and dry rub fastness could reach grade 4 and grade 4–5 respectively. The decrease in tearing strength of the dyed cotton was between 17.8 and 32.1%. Thé vert et constituantsIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Due to an increase in the production of green tea, the amount of leaf waste has increased enormously, causing serious environmental problems. With regard to environmental awareness, the possibility of reusing the waste leaves of green tea as a low‐cost and abundantly available source of natural dye for dyeing cotton fibres was investigated. Natural dye powder from the waste leaves of green tea (NDPT) was successfully applied to dye cotton fibres without mordant by batch experiments. NDPT was obtained as a dark brown powder with a yield of 2.7 ± 0.5% w/w from dried waste leaves of green tea. The optimal conditions for dyeing NDPT onto cotton fibres were: pH of dye solution, 3 ; material to liquor ratio, 100:1 ; dyeing time, 180 min ; concentration of dye solution, 3.0 mg/ml ; and dyeing temperature, 100 °C. The colour of cotton fibres dyed with NDPT was observed to be dark brown. The adsorption data of NDPT on cotton fibres was best fitted with a Langmuir adsorption isotherm model with a correlation coefficient (R2) of 0.997. It is clear that there is a strong possibility of reusing the waste leaves of green tea as a low‐cost and abundantly available source of natural dye for dyeing cotton fibres.
