Nanocomposites of polyacrylate containing silica nanoparticles were prepared by dispersing silica sol in a polyacrylate solution. Superhydrophobicity was attainable for nanocomposite coatings with a filler percentage of only 15 wt%. Reducing the loading of silica nanoparticles not only minimized the costs but also simplified the preparation. The superhydrophobic coatings with water contact angle as high as 155.4° and contact angle hysteresis of 5.6° exhibited good self-cleaning property. The superhydrophobic nanocomposite coatings also displayed good mechanical properties and excellent thermal stabilities that favor indoor and outdoor applications. The superhydrophobic nanocomposite coatings can be used on various substrate surfaces, including glass plates, polymethyl methacrylate plates, polycarbonate plates, and aluminum sheets. Given their large-scale and low-cost fabrication, superhydrophobic coatings show great promise in practical applications in a broad range of fields. The surface wettability, surface morphology and composition, and long-term durability of the coatings were investigated by WCA analysis, field emission scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and QUV accelerated weathering tests, respectively. The results show that the coatings display a pencil hardness of B, excellent weatherability, and electromagnetic shielding effectiveness beyond 60% in the frequency range of 10–3000 MHz. Index. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : Epoxy-based nanocomposite coatings were formulated by incorporating various types of inorganic nanoparticles (NPs) (ZrO2, ZnO, Fe2O3, and SiO2). The effect of the incorporation of various NPs on the mechanical, thermal, and morphological properties of these epoxy coatings has been studied. A facile direct incorporation technique has been utilized for the dispersion of the NPs in the epoxy matrix via high-speed mechanical stirring and ultra-sonication using acetone as a solvent. The incorporation of these NPs augmented the mechanical and thermal properties of the epoxy coatings. The results revealed that the incorporation of small amount of these NPs improved the mechanical properties of the coating in all cases, with the SiO2-reinforced sample being relatively better in both mechanical and thermal properties. The incorporation of Fe2O3 and ZnO resulted in a decrease in the thermal stability and glass transition temperature (T g) of the coatings, while incorporation of SiO2 and ZrO2 increased the thermal stability as well as T g of the coatings. A notable increase of 71% in hardness together with 26% increase in the elastic modulus of the epoxy coating was observed with the incorporation of 2 wt% SiO2 NPs.
les polyoléfines thermoplastiques semi-cristallines : polyéthylène (PE), polypropylène (PP), polyméthylpentène (PMP), polybutène-1 (PB-1) ;
