RhéologieIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The mechanical, electrical, thermal, and rheological properties of micro injection molded nanocomposites comprising 2% and 5% carbon nanotubes (CNTs) incorporated in polycarbonate (PC), and polyamide 66 (PA) were studied. The design of experiments method was used to investigate the composition-process – properties relationship. Results indicated that the process variables significantly affected the flow patterns and resulting morphology during the filling stage of the microinjection molding (lIM) process, using 0.45 mm diameter lIM samples. Two distinct flow regimes have been identified in lIM using the low cross-section samples. The first was a conventional “fountain flow,” which resulted in a skin/core structure and reduced volume resistivity up to 10 X cm in the case of 5% CNTs and up to 100 X cm in 2% CNTs, in both polymers, respectively. In addition, inferior mechanical properties were obtained, attributed to polymer degradation under high shear rate conditions, when practicing high injection speeds, high mold temperatures, and high screw rotation velocities. The second was a “plug flow” due to wall slippage, obtained under low injection speeds, low mold temperatures, and low rotation velocities, leading to a substantial increase in modulus of elasticity (60%) with increased electrical resistivity up to 103 X cm for 5% CNTs and 105 X cm for 2% CNTs, respectively. The rheological percolation threshold was obtained at 2% CNTs while the electrical threshold was attained at 0.4% CNTs, in both polymers. It was concluded that in lIM, the process conditions should be closely monitored. In the case of high viscous heating, degradation of mechanical properties was obtained, while skin- core morphology formation enhanced electrical conductivity. Nanotubes de carbone à parois multiplesUn nanotube de carbone multifeuillet est constitué de plusieurs feuillets de graphènes enroulés les uns autour des autres. Il existe deux modèles pour décrire la structure des nanotubes multifeuillets :
- le modèle poupée russe: les plans de graphène sont arrangés en cylindres concentriques ;
- le modèle parchemin: un seul feuillet de graphène est enroulé sur lui-même, comme une feuille de papier.
Stratifiés -- Propriétés mécaniquesIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : In the present study, residual stress is measured in fiber-reinforced SWCNT/epoxy at weight fractions of 0.1% and 0.5% with a cross-ply layup on a micro-scale. The mechanical properties of the SWCNT/epoxy composites were determined by tensile testing and the Young's modulus of the epoxy increased moderately with the addition of CNTs. The micro-residual stress of the cross-ply CF/epoxy and CNF-reinforced CF/epoxy laminates were measured using a new experimental approach. The micro-hole was milled by laser beam and the surface displacement was recorded by SEM after milling. In order to determine the residual stress from the recorded strain, the calibration matrix was calculated using the finite element method. The residual stress was obtained at a certain hole depth of specimens. The reliability of this approach was assessed by comparing the residual stress measurements from this method and from the standard hole-drilling method. The experimental results of the present approach confirmed that laser hole drilling SEM-DIC has excellent potential as a reliable method for measuring residual stress in polymer nanocomposites. Generally, CNT agglomerates, especially in high weight fractions, increased the micro-residual stress. An analytical method based on classical theory was used to calculate the residual stress and was compared with the experimental results. Good agreement was found between the results of the analytical methods and the experimental measurement. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE

RhéologieIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : The offline Microstructure of nanocomposites based on Poly-Propylene (PP), Ethylene-Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) and Cloisite 15A along the twin screw extruder barrel was investigated by X-Ray diffraction, Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and rheological measurements. To assess the effect of screw zones, the microstructural development of nanocomposites along the screw was investigated. Accordingly, dead-stop experiment samples were taken at four different positions of the extruder after abruptly stopping the machine and opening the barrel. Effect of clay loading on the evolution of morphology in the extruder was studied. X-Ray diffraction results showed that at lower clay contents (up to~ 7 wt.%), the intercalation process is independent of screw geometry and accomplishes as soon as the matrix is melted; and on the other hand, excessive melt mixing of the samples containing higher clay loadings (10 wt.%) might lead to the collapse of silicate layers and consequently poor degrees of intercalation/exfoliation. Results were confirmed by TEM micrographs and also XRD patterns of the nanocomposites sensitively detecting the microstructural changes of the samples. Polymérisation en émulsionTags : 'Polymérisation en miniémulsion' Gouttelette Hybride 'Structure des particules polymère' Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Miniemulsion polymerization is an efficient way to generate nano sized reactor system stabilized in the continuous phase. The oil droplets dispersed in water (O/W emulsions), are processed under high shear force to increase the interfacial area by reducing the droplet size in the range of 50 nm to 500 nm. These oil droplets are separated from each other through continuous phase, acts as nano reactor for polymerization. The typical emulsions are stabilized against Ostwald ripening and collisional degradation by using surfactant and low molecular wejght highly water insoluble co-stabilizer. The droplet should have sufficient stablllty belore polymerization, which will result in 1:1 copy of droplets to particles. This method is very different from the conventional method in terms of nucleation mechanism. This engineeied method enables to create structured colloidal particles having different morphology. The miniemulsion process can be usednot only for radical polymerization but also for poly-adddion and poly-condensation to make variety of polymer, copolymer, organic-inorganic hybrid etc. The reaction starts at the individual nano sized droplets for O/W emulsions that also makes easier for solid encapsulation inside the polymeric particles. The review shows the mechanism of the process and related robustness of the polymerization in different aspects. The different ways to stabilize the droplets before polymerization has also been reviewed. Note de contenu : - Preparation of miniemulsion.

Note de contenu : - PHENOMENE DE DELAMINAGE
