Tests de compatibilitéIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : One possible way to increase the use of bioplastics and thus contribute to a more resource-efficient and sustainable economy is to broaden the application range of such bioplastics. Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) is a promising and commercially available bio-based and biologically degradable polymer, which exhibits a high strength and stiffness but is very brittle. Blending with other polymers can lead to an enhancement of the ductility of the PLA. The goal of this work was to show that blending of PLA with a bio-based thermoplastic polyester-urethane elastomer (TPU) increases the ductility of the compound and also affects the adhesion of the layers when the materials – the modified PLA compound and the TPU – are processed via two-component (2C) injection molding to form corresponding composite parts. The results show that both goals – the increased ductility as well as the increased adhesion between the polymeric phases in 2C parts – can be reached by compounding PLA with two different bio-based polyester-based TPUs. Tensile strength and Young’s modulus of the compounds decrease according to a linear mixing rule with the addition of TPU. Elongation at break and notched Charpy impact strength increase by 750 and 200%, respectively. By addition of the TPU, the surface free energies of the compounds were increased, especially the polar parts. This led to reduced interfacial tensions between the produced compounds and the neat TPUs and thus increased the adhesion between them. For the softer TPU the adhesion was so strong that the TPU showed a cohesive failure in the 90° peel test and thus could not be separated from the compound substrate at all. For the harder TPU the bonding strength increased by 140% upon the addition of this TPU inside the hard component. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Materials - Sample preparation - Characterization

Polymères -- DétériorationIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : Co/terpolymers of L-lactide (LL), e-caprolactone (CL) and glycolide (G) are biodegradable in the human body and, as such, have considerable potential for use in biomedical applications such as absorbable surgical sutures, nerve guides, bone fixation devices and drug delivery systems. This study focuses its attention on their potential as monofilament fibers for absorbable suture applications. Random co/terpolymers with different compositions of LL, CL and G were synthesized via bulk ring-opening polymerization. The polymers obtained were melt spun at slow speeds into ice-cooled water to produce as-spun monofilament fibers with as little molecular orientation and crystallinity as possible. Combinations of off-line hot-drawing and annealing steps under controlled conditions of draw rate, draw ratio, temperature and time were then employed in order to develop the fiber's oriented semi-crystalline morphology. The mechanical properties of the fibers were tested after each processing step and compared. The tensile test results showed that the tensile strength was strongly dependent on the draw ratio. A high draw ratio was obtained by multiple off-line hot-drawings with intermediate annealing. The first hot-drawing step dramatically enhanced the mechanical properties relative to those of the weak, highly extensible as-spun fiber. Subsequent annealing at a suitable temperature and for an appropriate length of time increased fiber flexibility as a result of molecular relaxation. Additional hot-drawing steps, again under precise temperature-time conditions, increased the total draw ratio and further enhanced the fiber's mechanical strength. Index. décimale : 667.2 Colorants et pigments Résumé : Comb‐like polycarboxylates were synthesised by copolymerisation of methacrylic acid and nonylphenol polyethylene glycol methacrylate ester, and can be used as dye dispersants. In order to achieve good dispersive ability, three polycarboxylates were synthesised, each having a different side chain density. The side chain density of polymers was controlled by different ratios of monomers in the copolymerisation process. Acidic polymers were neutralised using sodium hydroxide. These polymers exhibit good dispersing performance, such that carboxylate groups are adsorbed onto the dye particle surface and the side chains enable the formation of a thick layer, thus providing the steric hindrance effect. Improvement of dye dissolution in the presence of polycarboxylates was studied. Polymers with a lower side chain density demonstrated a higher dye dissolution in water, which could be as a result of more effective adsorption of dispersant on the dye surface (CI Disperse Blue 79). The dyeing performance of the prepared dye dispersions on polyester was investigated. Spectrophotometric analysis of dyed fabrics using synthesised polycarboxylates demonstrates that there should be an optimum side chain density of polymer in order to control both dye solubility and dispersive ability. The result of turbidimetry and particle size analysis have proven this phenomenon. A comb‐like polycarboxylate with optimum side chain density was a better dye dispersant compared with a commercial sodium naphthalene sulphonate compound, as a result of its better heat stability.
