The SS sheets were first coated with dopamine by dipping in the dopamine solution with KIO3 and ultrasonication. Then, the acrylamide (AAm) was grafted onto the dopamine-modified SS samples under UV irradiation with ultrasonication, when the ketone-diol compound was used as a photoinitiating system. For comparison, the UV irradiation grafting of AAm was also performed without ultrasonication. The structures and morphologies of the samples were examined by Fourier transform IR spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, and scanning electronic microscopy before and after modification, respectively. Results showed that acrylamide was successfully grafted onto the poly-dopamine-coated SS. The hydrophilicity of the modified samples improved significantly, determined by the water contact angle measurement. Shown by Tafel polarization curves, the corrosion potential of modified SS was positively shifted, which demonstrated that the corrosion resistance was improved. Recent scientific advances in the understanding of the mechanisms of hyper- and hypo-melanogenesis in animal and human skin have been contributing to the development of novel topical whitening agents as cosmetics. The same applies for the systemic use of drugs and supplements that are expected to regulate melanin synthesis via up-and down-regulation of mRNA of enzymes and oter factors involved, and/or modulating the function of enzymes pivotal in melanogenesis.
In this review, we describe the mechanisms of melanogenesis in relevance to melanosomes, and their transportation and transfer from melanocytes to keratinocytes based on the recent evidence. Further, a role of alphamelanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) in UV-melanogenesis is explained focusing on intracellular signal transduction. Finally, future strategy to develop lightening agents for the pigmented skin is discussed, in addition to the introduction of whitening agents previously developed in Japan.Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=10545

Séparation (technologie)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The free radical oxidation process as tested in the pilot system was found to be effective in the treatment of protein containing waste-streams of the tannery operations.
The basic techniques are equally applicable to protein containing wastes that originate in dairy, meat packing, and other food-related industries.
The mechanism of breakdown proceeds through an oxidative chain reaction, the concentration of H2O2, metal ion catalyst, UV irradiation and cavitation. Ninety percent of TOC reduction of tannery waste was achieved in a pilot system with 2 minutes of UV irradiation.
The addition of a liquid-solid separation step, allow for the recovery of organic fats, thus reducing the organic load on the actual treatment system. The recovered fats can then be used for decreasing the overall costs of treatment. The recovery of proteins by gravity, sedimentation, precipitation, washing and drying, will further reduce the organic load to the treatment system. This recovered material may be a source of additional income to the tannery. In view of rising costs both these recovery systems should be evaluated more completely, as presently a potential source of income to the tannery is being washed down the sewer.Note de contenu : - Fat and protein recovery system

Rayonnement ultravioletIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : In this study, the influence of UVC radiation and the influence of ozone on the surface energy of specimens made of polycarbonate were investigated. In an additional step, the peeling resistance of silicone flaps, which were overmolded, onto pre-treated PC plates of multicomponent specimens were analyzed. For this purpose, the samples were exposed to UVC radiation for different lengths of time, ranging from 5 s to 3 600 s. To further evaluate the influence of the ozone created by the UVC in the presence of oxygen, treatments were also performed in pure oxygen and nitrogen atmospheres. Contact angle measurements as well as analyses of the surface roughness were carried out to evaluate the effect of the treatment. Two phenomena were identified during the investigations. In room air and oxygen atmospheres, a short-term effect of UVC radiation was observed, which led to an increase in the surface energy, and, therefore, also to an increase in the wettability after an exposure time of only 10 s. In addition, a long-term effect was also found when tests were performed in a nitrogen atmosphere. This effect became visible after at least 60 s, and increased over the course of the duration exposure. The surface roughness of the polycarbonate plates increased up to about 60 % after 10 s of UVC exposure time in an air atmosphere, after 300 s of exposure to UVC radiation the roughness values had more than doubled. A modular injection molding tool was designed for the production of multi-component specimens. In this tool, a thermoplastic plate is molded on the one side, and is then automatically transferred by a robot system to be overmolded with silicone on the other side. The employed injection molding technique makes an intermediate treatment, such as surface activation of the thermoplastic plate, possible before it is overmolded. Also, the short-term and long-term effects of UVC treatment were able to be verified again for the peeling resistance of the material. These tests were only carried out for specimens treated in air.
