Epoxidized polybutadiene : a novel prepolymer for cationically UV-curable coatings / F. Cazaux in JOURNAL OF COATINGS TECHNOLOGY (JCT), Vol. 66, N° 838 (11/1994)
[article]

ViscositéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Epoxidized polybutadiene was evaluated as a reactive prepolymer for cationically curable photosensitive compositions. Various epoxy or vinyl ether functional reactive diluents were used as viscosity reducers. Compositions with an average content of 5 mmol.g−1 of polymerizable functions were submitted to viscosity measurements, and their reactivity under UV-irradiation was examined by UV and/or IR spectroscopy. The initiator photolysis can be monitored easily and adequate exposure times were determined by simple kinetic treatment. The polymerization of epoxy monomers was driven to high conversion (over 95%) provided that the film was submitted to a soft thermal post treatment. Coatings of high flexibility and showing good adhesion to aluminium, steel, and glass were obtained by adequate adjustment of the formulations composition. The content in reactive diluent was kept to a low level without loss of curing ability. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Materials - Equipment - Characterization of cured coatings

- le modèle poupée russe: les plans de graphène sont arrangés en cylindres concentriques ;

Stabilité thermiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In order to achieve covalent bond between multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and waterborne polyurethane (WPU), pristine MWCNTs were first oxidized by strong acids and then underwent ring-opening reaction with epoxy resin to chemically attach epoxy moiety onto their surface. For fabrication of the MWCNTs/WPU composite, the epoxy moiety facilitates the dispersion of MWCNTs in the polymer matrix and could react with carboxylic acid or amine groups in the WPU macromolecules to form a crosslinked structure in their composite, resulting in a great improvement in their mechanical property, thermal stability, water resistance, and electrical conductivity. As the content of MWCNTs reached 1.5 wt%, the tensile strength of functionalized MWCNTs composite was improved by about 108% and the electrical conductivity was increased by six orders of magnitude compared to that of the pristine MWCNTs composite. Revêtements poudre:Peinture poudreIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Epoxy nucleophile catalyzed transesterification (ENCAT) is a new cure technology, which is particularly well-suited for coatings application. Acrylic and acrylic-polyester blends in high-solids paints self-cure with ENCAT under normal bake conditions to give an excellent balance of hardness, flexibility, and solvent resistance. Powder paints prepared with ester derivatives of epoxy resins self-cure, and likewise give an excellent balance of properties. The ENCAT catalyst is formed during cure by the combination of a nucleophile with an epoxide moiety. A strong base alkoxide, which is produced when the epoxide ring opens by nucleophilic attack, initiates transesterification. This mechanism is supported by 13C NMR and gas chromatographic studies. rate of transesterification is related to the structure of the hydroxyl and ester group undergoing transesterification. Transesterification rate is directly related to the concentrations of the nucleophile and epoxy co-catalysts, as well as to the basicity and nucleophilicity of the nucleophile Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Model compound studies - Transesterification rate by gas chromatography - Polymer synthesis - Paint preparation and testing

Réticulation (polymérisation)Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Graphene stacks/epoxy nanocomposites were produced and characterized in order to analyse the effect of different graphene precursors on cure reaction of a model epoxy matrix. A kinetic analysis of the cure mechanism of the epoxy resin associated to the catalytical activity of the graphite based fillers was performed by isothermal DSC measurements. The DSC results showed that the addition of all graphite based fillers greatly increased the enthalpy of epoxy reaction and the reaction rate, confirming the presence of a catalytic activity of graphitic layers on the crosslinking reaction between the epoxy resin components (epoxide oligomer and di-amine). A kinetic modelling analysis, arising from an autocatalyzed reaction mechanism, was finally applied to isothermal DSC data, in order to predict the cure mechanism of the epoxy resin in presence of the graphite based nanofiller.
