Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The use of nano composites in elastomer blends gives outstanding mechanical properties compared to the use of micro and macro composites, even with very low nano filler content. In this paper, we studied the influence of varying proportions of natural rubber (NR) and acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) reinforced with nano silica on the mechanical and thermal characteristics of the rubber. Mechanical characterizations were carried out with hardness, tensile strength, elongation at break, tear strength, modulus and toughness. For thermal analyses, we used differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA). In most cases, the increase in the percentage of NBR with the presence of nano silica enhances hardness, modulus and toughness, however, it reduces tensile strength, tear strength and elongation at break. It was found that nano silica has a catalytic effect on the mixture, and NBR has a catalytic effect on the decomposition of NR. Soudures -- Propriétés mécaniquesIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : In this work, top surface lubrication during friction stir welding of polycarbonate sheets was applied. A homogenous layer of Paraffin wax has been placed on the top surface of the joint area with a width that ensures to cover the shoulder diameter. Then FSW was applied using conventional FSW tool with rotating pin and shoulder at different FSW parameters (Rotation speeds of 1 000, 1500, 2 000 min–1 and welding speeds of 25, 50, 75,100 mm/min). The main objective of using the wax is to act as a lubricant that reduces the friction between the shoulder and the polycarbonate surface. The joints produced were investigated in terms of surface quality, internal defects, and mechanical properties. During FSW the wax is melted and played as lubricant between the tool shoulder and the polycarbonate surface and resulted in defect-free surface with no thickness reduction of the original plate. The transverse cross-section showed defect-free joints for the majority of the FSW parameters investigated. Tensile testing results showed a reduction of the tensile strength after FSW, and an enhancement in the tensile strength with the increase of welding speed or rotation speed. The fracture occurs at the joint zone and the fracture surface investigation using SEM showed the existence of spherulitic structure in the weld joint.
ViscoélasticitéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The effect of shearing conditions in the coating process on the uniformity of the coated layer of dense silica slurry is investigated. The pH 6.8 test slurry mainly used in this study forms a nonuniform coated layer only on the condition of large shear strain and low shear rate. The same shearing dependency was observed using not only a laboratory-scale doctor blade but also a pilot-scale comma coater. The test slurry exhibits two-step yielding, and the internal structure of the slurry is gradually destroyed after the second yielding. When the shear strain applied is within the second yielding, the test slurry is in equilibrium and a uniform coated layer is formed. As strain is increased further, the slurry changes from the viscoelastic fluid to Newtonian. When the shear strain is beyond the second yielding but the structural destruction is not completed, a nonuniform coated layer is formed. A higher coating speed or sufficiently large shear deformation, which effectively destroys the internal structure, is favorable to obtain a uniform coated layer. Traitement thermiqueIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : In this study, the effects on the photocatalytic activities of particles after heat treatment has been applied to cobalt ferrite nanoparticles produced by microwave-assisted combustion method were observed. The heat treatment applied to the samples was produced with only the microwave effect, at temperatures ranging from 300 to 1000°C. Thermogravimetric analysis was performed on the precursor sample in air atmosphere. During this analysis, the gases released up to 1200°C were identified with a Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometer integrated into a thermogravimetric analysis system. Then, the cobalt ferrite nanoparticles produced with heat treatments applied at various temperatures were used as a photocatalyst to remove the dyestuff content in synthetic wastewaters prepared by using Astrazon Red GTL textile dye by photocatalytic oxidation, and their photocatalytic activities were compared. In these experiments, the operational parameters for photocatalysis processes were applied as 400 rpm for stirring speed, 50 mg/L for initial contaminant concentration, 0.5 g/L for catalyst dosage, 25°C for temperature, and 4400 μW/cm2 for light intensity. As a result of the experiments, it was observed that the crystal structure of the cobalt ferrite nanoparticles produced with the increase of the applied heat treatment temperature improved significantly. The obtained data show a strong relationship between the structural properties of materials and their photocatalytic activities. In addition, it was determined that the dyestuff in the solution was completely degraded in the experiments, and it was determined that all processes were compatible with the pseudo-first-order kinetic model. Pompes à engrenagesIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : External gear pumps are used in fluid transport systems because of their tight clearances and accurate flow control. These tight clearances are a challenge for numerical studies in terms of spatial discretization. In earlier work, the flow of a viscous fluid in an external gear pump is computed using the finite element method (FEM). An element size based on the respective distance between boundaries is proposed. In this study, results based on the earlier work are compared to extrusion experiments of EPDM. The aim of this study is not only to validate the numerical simulations, but also to determine what material characteristics need to be taken into account for an accurate output prediction of the external gear pump. Especially the introduction of shear-thinning behavior results in an improvement of the amplitude of the pressure difference fluctuation. Taking into account compressibility, alters the torque fluctuation in such a way that it mimics the experiments. Unfortunately, the fluctuation in torque still has a too high amplitude. Eventually, simulations are performed including shear-thinning behavior, a temperature- and pressure-dependent viscosity, and compressibility. The effect of measuring the material behavior using oscillatory or shear experiments is shown. Furthermore, the simulations are applied to a second EPDM. Finally, different processing conditions are tested. For the simulations, only qualitative agreement is found, possibly as a result of the no slip boundary condition.
