Résistance au vieillissementIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Industries worldwide, including leather, have had to phase out pigments based on lead, chromium(VI), cadmium etc. due to the toxicity associated with these transition metal ions. Coupled to this phase out is also a need to enhance the functional properties of the otherwise safe pigments, with low use, so as to avoid wastage. In this direction, the use of nano-pigments is slowly coming into vogue. This paper explores the advantages of replacing an otherwise popular brown pigment — the hematite (?-Fe2O3) with nanosized oxides in leather finishing. Any synthesis methodology for nanoparticles is sustainable only when green methods are employed for their synthesis. This work takes adequate care in employing an environmentally friendly methodology based on biocompatible polysaccharide — starch as a template. The advantages of this method, such as the monodisperse character of the oxide, low particle size, ability of the carbon residue from the template to aid easy homogenization of the pigment to the finish formulation have resulted in excellent covering of surface, improved levelness, no overloading of grain, excellent physical properties and ageing resistance.

Stabilité thermiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The influence of nano-boron nitride (BN) with a multilayered structure on the anti-aging property of fire-resistive coatings was studied. After accelerated weathering for 20 days, the thermal stabilities and fire protection of the coating without nano-BN were significantly decreased, but the coating modified by nano-BN still maintained excellent intumescent effect and fire protection. The results indicated that nano-BN could improve the anti-aging property of the coatings remarkably. FTIR and XPS characterizations suggested that nano-BN with a multilayered structure could prevent the migration behavior of the hydrophilic fire-retardant additives and keep the fixed ratio of those additives in the coating. TGA results demonstrated that nano-BN could effectively enhance the thermal stabilities of the aged coatings and improve the anti-oxidation property of the char layers formed by the coatings. XRD and EDS results proved that the anti-oxidation of the aged coatings under high temperature could be enhanced effectively after adding nano-BN. SEM observations illustrated that nano-BN addition was beneficial to the improvement of the foam structure of the aged coating. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : 1. Materials - 2. Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Increasing demands on component functionality and the need for efficient manufacturing processes are keeping multi-component injection molding squarely in the focus of plastics processing.

UrethanesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : New water-soluble urethane diol resins have been developed to be used as resin modifiers for waterborne coatings systems crosslinked with amino resins. These urethane diols are a multipurpose chemical species that can be utilized to enhance performance properties as well as resolve some of the common issues experienced when formulating waterborne systems.
The above-mentioned resin modifiers are water soluble without the presence of amine neutralizers, surfactants, or co-solvents. Incorporating these urethane diols will thus improve the water solubility of a resin system in a wet paint, subsequently reducing the need for neutralizing amines and additionally allowing for easier resin incorporation with less co-solvent requirements. As resin modifiers, the urethane backbone allows formulators to enhance performance of aminoplast crosslinked coatings by incorporating urethane groups into a crosslinked network without the use of an isocyanate.
This work demonstrates the versatility of these urethane diols and further discusses how they can be used to enhance coating performance by improving corrosion and humidity resistance, as well as increasing hardness while maintaining flexibility.Note de contenu : - INTRODUCTION : Waterborne polyester formulations crosslinked with amino resins - Formulating with melamine crosslinkers - Necessity and effects of amine in PE/HMMM coatings - Polyurethane coatings - Urethane linkages in melamine coatings - Pursuit of non-VOC coatings : the rise of aqueous formulations and their limitations - Urethane diols for modifying aqueous formulations crosslinked with amino resins

Rubans adhésifsIndex. décimale : 668.3 Adhésifs et produits semblables Résumé : Based on a novel monomer, the release polymer has already proven successful in applications for film tapes. Offering strong hydrophobic performance, contamination resistance, and heat and aging resistance, it eliminates the need for silicone in end use, resulting in a completely repulpable product. Additionally, it offers the ability to reduce the environmental risks and burdens imposed by solvents or fluorine-based products.
This polymer can be blended with other products, such as those shown in Figure 5, enabling the creation of unique release coating formulations for specific applications. Work is ongoing to leverage this new technology for more applications, widening the range of release strengths it can provide and further enabling the reduction and elimination of older technologies, allowing more environmentally preferred end use products to be developed.Note de contenu : - Hydrophobicity
