Sol-gel, ProcédéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Single-layer films from cellulose nanofibrils on a plastic support were coated with sol–gel coated with inorganic–organic copolymers (ORMOCER®s), consisting of inorganic Si–O–Si-based networks combined with ceramic (Al–O– and Zr–O–) groups and special organic fluoroalkyl chain containing functional groups. Sol–gel coatings decreased the surface hydrophilicity and water vapor transmission rate. The water contact angle of uncoated films was 24°, indicating high affinity between water and the cellulose nanofibrils. All sol–gel coatings tested increased the surface hydrophobicity with the contact angles ranging between 54° and 102°. The water vapor transmission rates varied between 230 and 410 g/m2/day. With UV curable highly organically crosslinked coating, the water vapor transmission rate was decreased by 77% as compared to uncoated film. The uncoated film had oxygen transmission rates of 0.7 and 107 cc/m2/day at 50% and 80% RH, respectively. At high humidity conditions, the films tended to swell, thus allowing permeation to increase. Sol–gel coatings significantly improved the oxygen barrier properties especially at 80% RH. The transmission rates varied between 0.4 and 0.5 cc/m2/day (50% RH) and between 51 and 86 cc/m2/day (80% RH). Note de contenu : - Cellulose nanofibrils (CNF) and CNF films

Titre : Identifying melt processing conditions for a polyacrylonitrile copolymer plasticized with water, acetonitrile and their mixtures Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Yu Jianger, Auteur ; G. C. Miller, Auteur ; J. S. Riffle, Auteur ; D. G. Baird, Auteur Année de publication : 2019 Article en page(s) : p. 307-313 Note générale : Bibliogr.

The objective is to use water only as a plasticizer to melt spin PAN under specific conditions (composition, temperature etc.). The melting point and rheological measurements have been conducted by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and a modified capillary rheometer, respectively, for this plasticized system. The DSC results show that the melting point of the PAN copolymer can be reduced from over 300°C to below 180°C, which is the temperature for the onset of degradation (cyclization and crosslinking) of PAN. Rheological results show that the PAN copolymer can be extruded with a reasonable viscosity at 15 to 20°C above its melting point, and also the stability and viscosity are strongly dependent on temperature and the plasticizer type and content. Furthermore, the results indicate that the most appropriate condition for PAN melt spinning is for the PAN/H2O mixture of 70/30 wt% ratio at a temperature of 180°C for which the copolymer sample can remain stable without significant degradation for around 120 min and maintain its viscosity in the range of around 600 Pa s.

Tannage au chromeIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : A series of amphiphilic copolymers with different hydrophobie side chain structures were prepared through radical copolymerization of acrylic acid and varying hydrophobie acrylate monomers which were then applied to the retanning and fatliquoring processes of chrome-tanned leather. The main properties of the processed leathers were evaluated. The results showed that this kind of copolymer could give to leather, good filling effects, softness, waterproofness and mechanical strength. The application performances of the copolymers in leather-making were obviously affected by the hydrophobie side chain structure, especially the hydrophobie side chain length of copolymers. Compared to copolymers with branched side chains, the copolymers with straight hydrophobie side chains exhibited botter comprehensive performances. Most of the above mentioned properties of the treated leathers were improved significantly with the increase of side chain length. When the length of the hydrophobie side chain was more than C16, they can give leather excellent waterproofness, softness and mechanical strength. The results of dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and the scanning electron microscope (SEM) images also showed that the fibre bundles in the leathers were well separated and lubricated by the long hydrophobie side chains.
