Available screening test methods to assess the anaerobic biodegradation do not simulate the real conditions prevailing in these anaerobic compartments but rather reflect more stringent conditions, due to the high test substance/biomass ratio, possibility of inhibitory effects and limited possibility for adaptation. Therefore positive results are indicative of a similar behaviour under environmental conditions, while a negative result cannot be necessarily interpreted as inherent anaerobic recalcitrance. The majority of surfactants entering the environment will be exposed to and degraded under aerobic conditions, and only less than 20% will potentially reach temporarily anaerobic environmental compartments. In contrast to the well documented adverse effects observed in the absence of aerobic biodegradation, the lack of anaerobic biodegradation does not seem to be correlated with any apparent environmental problem for most compartments after more than 40 years of widely use of such products. The scientific review concluded that anaerobic biodegradability does not have the same environmental relevance as the aerobic one. Anaerobic biodegradability should not, therefore, be used as a pass/fail property for the environmental acceptability of surfactants which are readily biodegradable under aerobic conditions. As protective finishes, different surface active ether carboxylic acids were used. The influence of different weave types of the fabrics – woven and knitted – on their abrasive resistance was revealed. A comparative analysis between different ether carbon acids with respect to wettability of fabrics, surface topography parameters and mechanical treatment by abrasion was done. Langues : Anglais (eng) Tags : Amphoteric collector zeta potential electrostatic interaction adsorption Index. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : The silica represents the main gangue mineral in iron ore deposits. Different surfactants were used for separation of silica from iron ores. In the current work, an amphoteric collector was used as an alternative for the current reagents. Pure minerals of silica and hematite were used to investigate the mechanism of the amphoteric collector adsorption on both minerals. It was found that the adsorption density of collector was pH dependent. Preferential adsorption of collector was found to be at acidic pH range. The mechanism of collector interaction with the mineral surface was found to proceed via electrostatic interaction. Zeta potential measurements have indicated the possibility of collector adsorption by electrostatic interaction under the conditions where mineral surface and collector are oppositely charged Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=3197

The activity can be tested using e.g. the methylene blue test. The photocatalytic effect impairs classical formulations under side reactions leading to yellowing, chalking and bleaching. Recent formulations overcome the side reactions to a good extend. The development of highly photoactive coatings showing a minimum of side reactions is still in progress. Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Surfactants Tags : Labile surfactants Cleavable Car washing degreasing Alkyl ketene dimer Beta-keto Index. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : A new class of labile surfactants that break down at a controllable rate without the need for a change in pH will be presented. The invention has been patented by YKI Institute for Surface Chemistry, and is based on use of béta-keto acids or their salts as surface-active compounds. These surfactants spontaneously break down through decarboxylation, to form an oil-like ketone and CO2/HCO3–/CO32– depending on pH. The rate of breakdown can be controlled within a wide range by temperature or by certain additives, but, unlike most cleavable surfactants, a change in pH is not needed. Furthermore the surfactants can be conveniently activated from a stabile precursor just before use, and one (of many possible) precursors of this kind is already available on the industrial scale in the form of a well-known chemical that is FDA-approved in other, non-surfactant, applications. The compound in question, alkyl ketene dimer (AKD), is produced in large scale by a number of large chemical producers today, and used for hydrophobization of paper. The present article gives an overview of the surfactant chemistry, with focus on recent studies of the kinetics of activation of the surfactant precursor and breakdown kinetics of the labile surfactant at different conditions. Furthermore, possible industrial applications of the surfactant will be discussed, with one example taken from a recent feasibility Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=3199
