In this study, attempts have been made to develop a reactive ink-jet print in a single-phase process by adding an organic salt to the ink formulation and hence removing the need to pretreat fabrics. This approach utilises inks containing both a reactive dye, in this case Procion Red H-E3B, and an organic salt such as sodium formate, sodium acetate, sodium propionate or tri-sodium citrate. The behaviour of a novel reactive ink formulation for ink-jet printing on to cotton fabric was evaluated at different pH vlaues. The results at optimum pH indicated that printed non-pretreated fabrics with ink containing organic salts exhibited a higher level of reactive dye fixation than printed pretreated fabric containing no organic salt ink. The yielded prints demonstrate excellent colour fastness to washing and dry/wet crocking properties. The light fastness of the printed fabrics was improved by adding an organic salt to the ink formulation.

Textiles et tissusIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The cellulose-based textiles currently used in hospitals are good conducive materials for cross-infection or transmission of diseases caused by microorganisms. Thus, great interest has been recently found in the antibacterial finishing of fabrics for practical applications to prevent the infection incidence. In this work, we developed novel SnO2/ZnO/chitosan bionanocomposites by one-step simultaneous sonochemical/sol–gel deposition to prepare an antibacterial textile as a model for combating bacterial infections. The different prepared samples were characterized using transmission electron microscope, X-ray diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) indicating the embedded SnO2 and ZnO nanoparticles in treated fabrics. The treated fabrics were used to evaluate antibacterial activities against Escherichia coli and Streptococcus aureus as a model for Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, respectively, using disk diffusion method in dark conditions as an in vitro model for treatment of bacterial wound infection. The procedure was more developed in terms of SnO2/ZnO molar ratio and using chitosan and citric acid to improve the antibacterial properties of the fabrics and their wash durability, respectively. The highest antibacterial activity of the fabrics was attained in a 50 min sonochemical coating process using SnO2/ZnO 1:2 molar ratio in initial sol and simultaneously deposited chitosan and citric acid. The presence of chitosan as complexing agent, citric acid as crosslink agent, and SnO2–ZnO heterojunction as important influencing parameters synergistically enhanced both the antimicrobial efficiency and maintenance of modified cotton durability after performing several washing cycles. Stabilisant à la lumière de type amine encombréeIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The author describes the Novel Encapsulated Additive Technology, which is a significant advance for waterborne coatings.
NEAT enables the development of waterborne coatings with equivalent performance to that of state-of-the-art solvent-borne systems. This novel encapsulation technology allows Ciba Tinuvin DW UVAs and HALS to be used in aqueous systems. The easy stir-in incorporation of these NEAT light stabilisers requires no additional co-solvent. NEAT light stabilishers offer durable protection due to high washout resistance and they compromise neither transparency nor gloss.Note de contenu : - Novel encapsulated additives technology (NEAT)

N-Alkylated derivatives were also prepared using bromoethyl acetate. Full 1H and 13C NMR assignment was performed. All prepared dyes were soluble in most organic solvents: N-alkylated derivatives had better solubility than non-alkylated derivatives. The UV-vis absorption spectra of the derivatives under study are quite similar and exhibit maxima in the 509–526 nm range. No E/Z photoisomerisation is observed. The dyeing process, dye exhaustion on polyester, and the fastness properties of the dyes were examined. The aim was to reduce the NMA content and the formation of free formaldehyde from pigment printing pastes by employing newly synthesized core-/shell-type polymers. After five washing cycles, the synthesized core-/shell-type polymer including 1% NMA in the core and 1% NMA in the shell with T g values +30°C and −20°C, respectively, with lowest total NMA content (1.03%) yielded the best result and showed closest ΔE values to the commercially available polymer including 4% NMA. Dry and wet rubbing fastness results showed no significant changes in the absence of NMA when compared with NMA containing samples. The penetration degree of the pigment pastes of the corresponding polymers was relatively higher on 100% cotton fabric for both red- and blue-colored pigments. A negligible decrease in color strength has been observed for all polymers when colored in red.
