Over the years, surface coatings have contained substantial amounts of petrochemicals. Some petro-chemicals such as solvents are used directly in surface coating formulations, while others formed the feedstock for chemical processes which produce such raw materials as film formers and pigments.
The recognition that petroleum resources are not infinite makes it imperative to look for alternative sources of raw materials for surface coating materials. The vast quantites agricultural wastes in tropical countries could be a valuable source of raw materials for the surface coating industry. The purpose of this paper is to describe the nature and properties of such raw materials that could be derived from agricultural wastes of vegetable origin.Note de contenu : - FILM FORMERS : furfural - polyhydroxy compounds - pigments

The relevant information in the present instance serves to assist all the interested parties to determine those stages in the cycle that in the case of the alkyd emulsion manufactured by Dyno Industries can be improved to reduce adverse effects, arising therefrom, on the environment. The most effective improvements derive from the constant development of modifications to the production processes and the elimination of noxious substances. A reduction in permitted levels of solvent emission during the manufacture and application of paint makes it necessary to develop new raw materials and application techniques. At the same time, it is important to ensure that the required high product quality is retained or further improved for customers.
As a result of joint development work between raw material and coating producers, machinery and equipment manufacturers and customers, new coating systems and application and disposal techniques have already been introduced in the automotive OEM and refinishing paint sectors and are currently finding wider application in general industrial finishing of metal, wood and plastics.Note de contenu : - HIGH-SOLIDS, SOLVENT-CONTAINING TWO-PACK POLYURETHANE PAINTS : solids content - binders

Langues : Anglais (eng) Tags : 'Etude expérimentale' Réflectométrie 'Analyse surface' 'Surface courbe' 'Configuration cylindrique' Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The measurement and control of surface appearance is important to a wide range of industries as the appeal of finished goods can depend strongly on the visual appearance of their surfaces. Many techniques are employed to quantify the appearances of surfaces, measuring properties such a haze, colour, specular gloss or distinctness of image. Specular gloss can be defined as the proportion of light reflected from a standard surface. This measurement is relatively straight forward to make and standard methods for measuring gloss have been developed for use in industries such as paper manufacture, paints and coatings, metals and plastics. Many manufacturers make fixed angle reflectometer instruments (known as gloss meters) which conform to these standards.
Different measurement procedures are required when measuring curved surfaces. Gloss meter manufacturers have developed meters with reduced illumination areas to imrove the measurement of curved surface gloss. The work in the present paper addresses the measurement of the gloss of cylindrical surfaces. Such surfaces have curvatures simply defined by the cylinder radius and readily identifiable axes of symmetry. Measurements were made of the gloss of cylindrical surfaces to assess the performance of gloss meters. Simple models to calculate the expected performance of meters on the cylindrical surfaces are discussed.Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=17042
