Titre : Environment-friendly protein-/starch-based biodegradable polymers and composites Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Anne Bergeret, Auteur Année de publication : 2008 Article en page(s) : p. 42-45 Langues : Anglais (eng) Tags : Biocomposite 'Polymère biodégradable' 'Matériau composite' Polyoside Film Application renforcé fibre' 'Déchet agricole' Amidon Protéine Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Global warming, growing awareness of environmental and waste-management issues, dwindling fossil resources, and rising oil prices are some of the reasons why “bio” products are being promoted more and more for sustainable development. There are a number of applications (packaging, agriculture, household use, and more) where biodegradable polymers and composites are particularly suitable as sustainable alternatives. Titre : New surface coatings developed from plant based waste materials for bamboo protection Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : V. Sorna Gowri, Auteur Année de publication : 2000 Article en page(s) : p. 35-44 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Tags : 'Matériau revêtement' Peinture Liant 'Matière première' 'Déchet agricole' Utilisation Bambou Préparation Feuil 'Propriété mécanique' chimique' 'Résistance Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The objective of the present study is the utilisation of agro-wastes, like Bhilawanut Shell Liquid (BSL) and Cashewnut Shell Liquid (CNSL) to develop surface coatings for the protection of bamboo surfaces from corrosive environments. As traditional bamboo coatings have the disadvantages of leachability and poor resistance to corrosive environment, it is necessary to develop alternate coatings with better adhesion properties for the protection of bamboo. BSL is an indigenous extract from the shells of Semecarpus anacardium and CNSL is a waste product obtained from the cashew industry. Both BSL and CNSL exhibit the unique properties of ortho dihydric phenol, which can be utilised profitably in the coatings industry. Surface coatings based on BSL and CNSL were prepared from formaldehyde, styrene, hexamine and epichlorohydrin. These coatings were applied on bamboo, and the performance of the coatings was evaluated by determining their physical, chemical and mechanical film properties. The coatings were also characterized by employing IR, NMR and scanning electron microscopical studies. Titre : Raw materials for surface coatings from agricultural wastes Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Onyewuchi Akaranta, Auteur Année de publication : 1996 Article en page(s) : p. 152-154 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Tags : Peinture 'Matière première' 'Déchet agricole' Liant Pigment Adjuvant charge' 'Article synthèse' Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Surface coatings are materials designed to protect and/or decorate the substrate to which they are applied. Over the years, surface coatings have contained substantial amounts of petrochemicals. Some petro-chemicals such as solvents are used directly in surface coating formulations, while others formed the feedstock for chemical processes which produce such raw materials as film formers and pigments.
The recognition that petroleum resources are not infinite makes it imperative to look for alternative sources of raw materials for surface coating materials. The vast quantites agricultural wastes in tropical countries could be a valuable source of raw materials for the surface coating industry. The purpose of this paper is to describe the nature and properties of such raw materials that could be derived from agricultural wastes of vegetable origin.Note de contenu : - FILM FORMERS : furfural - polyhydroxy compounds - pigments
