Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : There are a variety of organic esters of cellulose, among which the cellulose acetates (CAs), cellulose acetate propionates (CAPs) and cellulose acetate butyrates (CABs) are some of the better known. These esters are utilized in varied and numerous applications, like the fabrication of photographic film, plastics, filters and coatings. In the following paragraphs, we will describe the cellulose acetate butyrates (CABs), emphasizing their use in original and refinish automotive coatings. CABs are produced through the esterification of cellulose (obtained from cotton or wood pulp) with the appropriate organic anhydrides and acids and catalysts. The result is a modest products line, come of which, along with certain physicochemical properties and characteristics are shown in table 1. CABs have varied compositions and properties, which are indicated by the name or designation for each². This molecule is unique in that it combines the high base strength of an amine with the low volatility of a dispersant and wetting agent. The application of this chemistry and the resulting improvement in performance properties and cost benefits will be presented. Extensible films (polyethylene) are better printed flexographically. While there are some sheet gravure precesses for speciality printing in short run lengths, most are rotary web presses, hence the name 'rotogravure'. Almost all gravure presses are multi-colour in-line operations. Additional equipment can be added at the end of the press to manufacture folded products such as magazines. For packaging, some cartons are gravure printed on web-fed presses and die cut in-line. Occasionally, rewinding is required for gravure printed packaging products. In the packaging industry, gravure precess are typically one metre wide or more and press speeds of 200-300m/min are common. Publication gravure presss are usually, at least two metres wide. Here, press speeds of 700-1000m/min are typical. Gravure inks and coatings are low viscosity (100 mPas), fast drying (by evaporation) materials. Toluene is the most important solvent in publication inks. Esters, ketones, water and toluene are most frenquently used in packaging inks.
