Traitement hydrothermiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Anti-corrosion coatings on magnesium alloys serve as a barrier that inhibits external agents such as salt and acid rain from interacting with the alloy surface. By isolating the alloy from air and moisture, these coatings delay the onset of oxidation and corrosion, thereby enhancing the alloy’s durability. Consequently, the formulation of such coatings is a critical step in advancing the magnesium alloy industry. This review outlines the types and anti-corrosive mechanisms of coatings for magnesium alloys, namely, organic, inorganic, metallic, and composite coatings. Additionally, various methods for coating preparation are discussed, including hydrothermal methods, chemical vapor deposition, electrodeposition, microarc oxidation, and magnetron sputtering. Finally, the review offers directions and conceptual frameworks for future research on magnesium alloy anti-corrosion coatings. Revêtement auto-nettoyantIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The aim of this work was to assess the effect of the direct current magnetron sputtering parameters on the photocatalytic activity and photoinduced wettability of amorphous TiO2 films. TiO2 films were deposited on glass using the direct current magnetron sputtering technique, without heating, at different total working pressures. Qualitative analysis using in situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirmed the TiO2 stoichiometry of the deposited films. Surface structure was studied as a function of working pressure using scanning electron microscopy. The hydrophilicity of the TiO2 surfaces was investigated macroscopically using measurements of the water contact angle. A threshold working pressure was observed, with a strong dependence on the film thickness. A super hydrophilic surface was observed after less than 1 h of UV irradiation. The photocatalytic activity of the films was evaluated under UV light through the degradation of methylene blue (λmax≈660nm). The effect of UV irradiation on the photocatalytic activity was rapid, strong, and dependent on film thickness and total working pressure. Fifty percent of organic compounds were photodegraded by films with a thickness of 60 nm deposited at 10 mTorr. The coating adhesion on each material substrate was investigated using a progressive load scratch tester (PLST) and a multi-pass scratch tester (MPST). Microhardness tests and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were also used to examine the hardness and microstructure of the NbN coatings. These results have indicated that the structural, mechanical, and adhesion properties of the NbN coatings improve with increasing target currents. While performing PLST and MPST tests, the highest adhesion and lowest friction force were obtained for the coatings deposited at a target current of 3.5 A. In addition, the triboscobic behaviors that were observed from the MPST of the coatings indicated that the target currents affect the friction behavior of the coatings. Revêtements:PeintureIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Hafnium carbide coatings with different carbon contents were synthesized in Ar–C2H2 mixture by reactive magnetron sputtering. Energy-dispersive X-ray, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and nanoindentation were employed to characterize their microstructure and mechanical properties. The effects of C2H2 partial pressure on the composition, phase, microstructure, and mechanical properties of the coatings were investigated. The results show that hafnium carbide coatings can be synthesized at a low partial pressure of C2H2. The single-phase HfC coating with columnar crystal and favorable mechanical properties is obtained when the proportion of C2H2 partial pressure is only about 3.0% in the mixture, and the highest hardness and modulus are 27.9 and 255 GPa, respectively. The coating contains metal Hf and HfC phases and obtains low hardness under lower C2H2 partial pressure. When the C2H2 partial pressure is higher, the hardness and elastic moduli of acquired amorphous coatings decrease significantly.
