VerreIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Antistatic poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) composites filled with silver plated hollow glass microspheres (Ag-HGMs) were prepared using the melt-mixing method. Electrical resistivity and mechanical properties of the Ag-HGMs/PVC composites were subsequently investigated. The results show that the HGMs were successfully coated with a uniform and compact silver layer. With increasing Ag-HGMs content, the volume resistivity of Ag-HGMs/PVC composites decreases nonlinearly. With an Ag-HGMs content of about 120 phr, reaching the percolation concentration, the composites meet the antistatic requirements for commercial antistatic PVC materials. Furthermore, the tensile strength of Ag-HGMs/PVC composites decreases with increasing content of Ag-HGMs, while the impact strength increases with increasing content of Ag-HGMs from 0 phr to 150 phr. We especially found that with a Ag-HGMs/PVC composites exhibit great impact strength.

RhéologieIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The process of dispersing filler in polymer matrix is vital to the behavior of polymer composites. The current study involves understanding the extent of dispersion of filler by only varying the nature of mixing during the process. Identical polymer composite materials are processed via two different kinds of mixing sections on the screw in a twin-screw extruder, differing in the type and amount of stress they impose on the filler agglomerate. An aggressive (900) Kneading Block (KB) mixing section is compared with recently developed Extensional Mixing Elements (EMEs), which impart extension dominated mixing while KB imparts shear dominated mixing. Various EME geometries of different levels of aggressiveness were computationally studied and validated. Composites obtained from KB are compared with composites processed using five different EME geometries. Three composites of Polypropylene (PP) filled with carbon black, graphene nano platelets and carbon nanotubes were studied independently. Composites processed through EMEs display about an order of magnitude better dispersion of filler agglomerate over the composites processed through KB. In addition, enhanced modulus and yield stress is observed for composites processed through EMEs. An improvement of 63% to 266% in the strain achieved for EME processed composites is seen under biaxial film stretching.
- le modèle poupée russe: les plans de graphène sont arrangés en cylindres concentriques ;

Stabilité thermiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In order to achieve covalent bond between multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and waterborne polyurethane (WPU), pristine MWCNTs were first oxidized by strong acids and then underwent ring-opening reaction with epoxy resin to chemically attach epoxy moiety onto their surface. For fabrication of the MWCNTs/WPU composite, the epoxy moiety facilitates the dispersion of MWCNTs in the polymer matrix and could react with carboxylic acid or amine groups in the WPU macromolecules to form a crosslinked structure in their composite, resulting in a great improvement in their mechanical property, thermal stability, water resistance, and electrical conductivity. As the content of MWCNTs reached 1.5 wt%, the tensile strength of functionalized MWCNTs composite was improved by about 108% and the electrical conductivity was increased by six orders of magnitude compared to that of the pristine MWCNTs composite.
Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Sardou SAS has worked since 1983 on torsion beams, which are highly stressed structures, and invented composite C-springs in 1993 and composite coil springs in 2002. During the development of composite coil springs, the company had to face a very low fatigue life due to the poor properties of DGEBA epoxy resin. The springs were destroyed too early, with strong sagging. So, in 2005 we started developing EPOSIL, a unique epoxy resin characterized by a 3 micron-long and 18 nanometer-wide mineral structure carrying up to 100 000 epoxy functions.
