Composites à fibres de carbone
Moulage par transfert de résine sous vide
PolyimidesIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : In previous work, composite intake valves for use in internal combustion (IC) engines were manufactured by resin transfer molding (RTM) and demonstrated in a fully functional IC engine on a dynamometer. These valves consisted of a high temperature polyimide matrix, LaRC PETI-RFI, reinforced with a carbon fiber preform. While this previous work successfully demonstrated the potential for composite intake valves, several issues were noted including excesive surface porosity on a result of inadequate process pressure due to a lack of sealing in the resin transfer die.
In the current work, improvements to the sealing of the die have been made in an attempt to evaluate the effectiveness of pressure generated from differential thermal expansion of the polyimide matrix and the die during the cure stage. Additionally, the development of preforms resulting in higher fiber volume fractions, a transition to the lower viscosity polyimide, LaRC PETI-RTM, and the utilization of vacuum-assist during resin transfer molding were investigated to assess the effects on the as-molded surface quality.
The results of the processing study suggest that, with continued process development in the areas outlined, high quality, porosity-free composite intake valves can be manufactured by resin transfer molding.Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=10291

RotogravureIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : This paper presents a novel method for printing thick silver electrodes with high fidelity using a rotogravure technique and high-viscosity silver ink. The widths and thicknesses of the printed electrodes were investigated with respect to the printing angle and printing speed. In addition, the use of a low-surface-energy polyethylene terephthalate substrate was found to decrease the ink transfer for printing angles of up to 60°, possibly because of the small adhesive force at the interface between the ink and substrate. We therefore employed substrates with higher surface energies, namely polyimide and treated polyimide, to enhance the ink transfer. A lower printing speed of 0.5 m/min and high viscosity of 15 Pa·s are required to obtain better functionality with a lower resistivity. However, using the proposed method, the fidelities of the printed patterns were achieved even with a high printing speed of 10.5 m/min using the high viscosity of 15 Pa·s, necessitating a subsequent sintering process. Therefore, the printed pattern was sintered in an oven at 350°C for 10 min. Patterned silver electrodes 1 m in length, 121 ± 2.2 μm in line width, 6.5 ± 2.2 μm in average thickness, and with a resultant resistivity of 9 µΩ·cm were achieved. The findings of this study confirm the potential of rotogravure printing for fabricating thick electrodes with high fidelity for flexible printed circuit boards with large areas.

Traîtements de surfaceIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : A polyimide fabric was treated with sodium hydroxide to improve its dyeing property. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis showed that carboxyl groups were introduced onto the fibre surface after an alkali treatment. The mean zeta potentials were 7.19 mV for the original sample and -12.1 mv for the treated sample. The surface morphology measured using atomic force microscopy and scanning electron microscopy indicated the presence of a very rough surface structure for the alkali-treated sample. The alkali-treated sample showed a higher equilibrium exhaustion than the untreated sample did. The adsorption isotherms of the treated fabric followed the Langmuir sorption model. Polymères en émulsionIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : This work focuses on fabrication of multi-hollow polyimide gel and aerogel particles from a surfactant-free oil-in-oil emulsion system using a microfluidic droplet generator operating under dripping mode. The multi-hollow gel and aerogel particles have strong potential in thermal insulation. Under jetting and tip-streaming regime of microfluidic flows, droplets are generated with no occluded liquid phase. The present study investigates a means of designing polyimide gel particles with plurality of internal liquid droplets by strategically manipulating the flow rates of the continuous and dispersed phase liquids through the microfluidic droplet generator. The multi-hollow polyimide aerogel particles obtained after supercritical drying of the gel particles present mesopores, high BET surface area, and excellent prospect for thermal insulation.
