Its advantages include VOC elimination, lower energy costs, increased productivity, low capital costs (UV), low equiment space requirements, and high performance coatings. To optimize the performance properties of radiation-curing coatings, additives are a necessity. To overcome migration problems and deteriorating performance over time often seen with typical silicone additives, a new class of reactive additives has been developed for radiation curing systems. These products are crosslinkable, have little or no tendency towards migration, and provide improvement in flow and leveling, substrate wetting, air release, and slip and release properties as well as scratch resistance. This new class of additive combines the positive attributes of silicone chemistry with that of radiation curing, thereby optimizing UV and EB coating performance.

Test d'immersionIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : This article addresses the value of collecting mechanical and thermal property data for better understanding the development of coating properties. As a case study, the rheological and thermal characterization data of two solventborne systems (a polyamide-cured epoxy and a moisture-cured RTV silicone) and a 100% solids system (polyetheramine-cured epoxy) are discussed along with the experimental considerations when conducting these types of studies. For the two solventborne systems, dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) were used to characterize the liquid-to-solid transformation of these functional coatings. In particular, for the polyamide-cured epoxy, the effects of solvent addition and cure temperature (ambient vs heat-cured) on the resulting properties were investigated. For the 100% solids polyetheramine-cured epoxies, an in situ DMA immersion test for measuring the solvent resistance of coatings is presented. For these materials, lower crosslink density formulations exhibited more dramatic decreases in modulus with solvent uptake. VulcanisationIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : This work focuses on the foaming behavior of thermoplastic vulcanized silicones (TPVs) in which partially crosslinked silicone nodules are dispersed. In these TPVs, silicone nodules dispersed in a low density polyethylene (LDPE) phase have an average size of about 1 μm. The crosslinking densities of the elastomer phase were selected according to their viscoelastic behavior. Surprisingly, linear and non-linear shear rheology appeared more sensitive to formulations than extensional rheology. Indeed, each formulation has an extensional rheological behavior similar to that of pure LDPE and meets the requirements for foaming applications in terms of elongation at break and melt strength. In accordance with non-linear shear rheology, the foaming behavior of these formulations has been correlated to extrusion foaming parameters that are known to control nucleation, i. e. pre-die pressure and die exit depressurization rate. With an appropriate crosslinking density of silicone nodules, the TPV foamability tends to the foamability of pure LDPE to reach a foam density of 0.54 g/cm3 with an average cell size of 140 ± 50 μm and a cell density of 3 × 105 cells/cm3. Since partially crosslinked silicone nodules cannot foam, it is assumed that they improve nucleation while allowing sufficient expansion of the LDPE phase.

When the REACH regulations were introduced in 2007 – to protect human health and the environment from the use of chemicals – Indestructible Paint anticipated future issues for chrome (CrVI), which is a core component in one of the company’s high-performance diffusion coatings, IP1041 (known commercially as Ipal).
Diffusion coatings are formulated with aluminium and silicone powders carried in an inorganic acidic binder comprising a blend of chromium trioxide (chromic acid) and phosphoric acid, with a small percentage of magnesium salts. They are used in the hot gas path of turbine engines – particularly industrial and marine engines – as their resistance to temperatures up to and above 1,000°C and to oxidation in sour gas atmospheres are essential to long-term durability. Diffusion coatings are also required to provide long-term resistance in high SOx atmospheres.
Diffusion happens during processing where components are exposed to temperatures typically greater than 865°C in an inert atmosphere. Under this treatment, the aluminium and silicone, together with metal ions within the substrate, diffuse together. Once all the aluminium and silicone from the coating are consumed, the temperature drops, and the metallic structure is ‘frozen’. The carrier binder – no longer part of the coating structure, forms on the surface of the diffusion layer as a bisque – which is removed by light burnishing under a humid atmosphere.
Indestructible Paint began a challenging and extensive project to develop a resilient, chrome-free coating that would maintain the required performance. After ten years of research, development and testing, the solution – which the company named CFIpal – has been successfully developed. The chrome-free coating is now market ready and already approved by a major engine manufacturer.Note de contenu : - DEVELOPING A CHROME-FREE DIFFUSION COATINGS : Phase 1 : Development - Phase 2 : Laboratory testing - Phase 3 : Application trials En ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UXQ2C3lUQoWIhfaKad94iCYkHMA63QSF/view?usp=drive [...] Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=39296
