Titre : Optimization of raw hide curing using two-component counter-current diffusion model Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Michaela Barinova, Auteur ; Karel Kolomaznik, Auteur ; Vladimir Vazek, Auteur ; Ján Matyasovsky, Auteur ; Peter Jurkovic, Auteur Année de publication : 2009 Article en page(s) : p. 397-404 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Curing with concentrated brine solution (sodium chloride) is a common method for raw hide preservation. Sodium and chloride ions diffuse towards the raw hide inner volume, which initiates the counter-current transport of water from the raw hide inner volume. The result of the two-component counter-current diffusion is increasing salt content and decreasing water content in the raw hide inner volume. For optimization of the curing process it is necessary to determine the time dependence of the brine concentration from the hide surface towards its center, it means the non-stationary concentration field in the inner volume of the hide. For this reason we have proposed a mathematical-physical model for NaCl diffusion in the hide. We have also carried out the numerical solution of the model; the solution comprises the concentration fields of sodium chloride and water during the curing process. The respective effective diffusion coefficients and their dependence on brine concentration have been determined experimentally. The result of the mathematical simulation and mathematical evaluation of the experimental data was estimation of the optimal time for raw hide curing at the given boundary conditions, and a sufficient brine concentration in the inner volume of the hide.

SurfactantsIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : In this work, a degreasing process using an ethoxylated fatty alcohol has been applied to pickled English domestic sheepskins.
A standard substrate has been used to determine the best degreasing conditions as a function of pH, surfactant offer, degreasing time and treatment with lipases which are active at neutral pH.
Once determined, the degreasing conditions have been applied to whole skins. The influence of adding acid proteases and acid lipases during the pickle process and that of adding neutral lipases during the degreasing treatment has been studied. Given that, the higher the degreasing effectiveness, the higher the COD values of the degreasing effluents, the surfactant offer has been optimized to improve degreasing effectiveness with as little pollution as possible. The effect of the addition of enzymes on degreasing effectiveness has been compared to that produced by implementing degreasing processes with a pre-tanning operation.
An aqueous degreasing process with enzyme addition for wooled English domestic sheepskins for 'double face' leather articles is recommended.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Application on standard substrate (s.s.) - Residual fat analysis - Surfactant employed -

Titre : Optimization of the assay of bate and drum liquor for proteolytic activity Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Samuel M. Mozersky, Auteur ; Marvin A. Baynes, Auteur ; David G. Bailey, Auteur Année de publication : 1995 Article en page(s) : p. 235-242 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : In two recent publications from this laboratory, procedures were described for measuring the proteolytic activity of bate and (bate-containing) drum liquor using hide powder azure (HPA) as substrate. Subsequent to that work, it was found that HPA sometimes loses much of its sensitivity to proteolytic enzymes of storage. This led to a study of the substrate and of related factors affecting the assay, which resulted in substantial revision of the assay procedure, as follows. HPA is activated prior to use by reduction of particle size and a mild heat treatment, and200mg used per assay (instead of 50mg). A clarified extract of the sample to be assayed is introduced into the incubation tube (a 25 mm ´ 150 mm screw-cap tube) instead of the crude material. Since proteolytic activity was found to change by 10 to 15% per °C, good temperature control is necessary; for research purposes, a water-bath shaker-incubator operating at 37°C and 400 rpm is recommended. Incubation time has been reduced from 20 min to 10 min at ambient temperature (ca. 25°C), 5 min at 37°C. These modifications have resulted in the following advantages: (1) substantially increased sensitivity, (2) a linear dependence of the color measured on enzyme concentration, and (3) improved reproducibility. Revêtements antisalissuresIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : In order to improve the hydrophobicity and applied properties of leather products, 3- (Trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate (KH-570) and Dodecafluoroheptyl methacrylate (G04) were used as modified monomers preparing a fluorosilicone polyacrylate leather finishing agent by semi-continuous seed emulsion polymerisation. The structure of the prepared latex film was characterised and analysed by FTIR and XPS. The effects of the addition of silicone monomer on the latex film and the application properties were investigated by SEM and TG. The results showed that: both the organic fluorine and the silicone monomers participated in the polymerisation, and the particle size of the emulsion was 50-70nm. XPS showed that the fluorine and silicon elements in the film-air interface were 1.74% and 3.12% higher than the theoretical values. SEM showed that the surface microstructure of the latex film of the fluorosilicone copolymer emulsion was relatively rough, and the roughness was helpful to further improve the hydrophobicity and antifouling property of the finished leather. TG showed that, after the addition of silicone monomer, the heat resistance of the film was obviously improved. Compared with fluorinated polyacrylate emulsion, the contact angle of the leather sample finished by organo fluorosilicone polyacrylate emulsion to water increased about 7°. The applied properties of the finished leather were also improved. PolyuréthanesIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : In order to improve the hydrophobicity and softness of leather, a fluoro-silicon-modified waterborne polyurethane (FSiWPU) leather finishing agent was prepared by emulsion polymerisation using 1H,1H,2H,2H-Nonafluoro-1-hexanol (F9) and N-(2-aminoethyl) -3-aminopropyl trimethoxy silane (KH-792) as modified monomers. The structure of the latex film and the film was characterised by FTIR, XRD and UV. The effects of F9 and KH-792 on the properties of the film was investigated. The water contact angle and application properties of the coated leather were tested. FTIR and XRD showed that F9 and KH-792 were successfully introduced into the main chain of waterborne polyurethane. The particle size of the modified composite emulsion was 106nm; the UV transmittance of the composite emulsion was significantly reduced compared to pure aqueous polyurethane. The water contact angle of the leather finished with the composite emulsion was 111° Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES : Materials - Preparation of fluorosilicone waterborne polyurethane emulsion - Finishing technology of leather - Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR) analysis - XRD analysis of emulsion - Particle size analysis of emulsion - UV analysis of emulsion - Contact angle of finished leather to water - Testing of the finished leather applied properties
