Silsesquioxanes oligomères polyhèdresIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Octavinyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (OvPOSS) was synthesized via hydrolysis and condensation of vinyltriethoxysilane. The structure of OvPOSS was determined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), 1H nuclear magnetic resonance and 29Si nuclear magnetic resonance. A novel hydroxyl functional polyacrylate latex (HPA) with core–shell structure modified by OvPOSS (OvPOSS/HPA) was successfully prepared via emulsion copolymerization. Consequently two-component waterborne polyurethane (2K-WPU) coatings were prepared by using the as-prepared latex as hydroxyl components and hydrophilic polyisocyanates as curing agents. The structure and properties of OvPOSS/HPA were marked by FTIR, XRD, differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis. The results of FTIR and XRD show that OvPOSS has been successfully embedded into HPA, and OvPOSS occupies a homogeneous distribution in the HPA matrix. The effect of OvPOSS on the properties of OvPOSS/HPA as well as the application performance of 2K-WPU coatings film were also investigated. The results show that OvPOSS/HPA possesses core–shell structure with the OvPOSS core and enhanced thermal stability. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of OvPOSS/HPA with 2.0% OvPOSS content is 22.3°C, which is 8.4°C higher than that of pure HPA. The performance properties of the 2K-WPU coating films such as pencil hardness were also improved by incorporation of OvPOSS. The new liquid bio-based Priplast polyols are easy to use and modify the adhesives to become hydrophobic, highly flexible and provide adhesion to various substrates. Durability is enhanced due to thermo-oxidative stability and improved hydrolytic stability versus conventional polyester polyols. ZincIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A series of novel zinc-polyurethane copolymers, which contained zinc cations in the form of polymeric salt and can be exchanged with the sodium ions in sea water, was prepared. As the ion exchange reaction proceeded, the zinc-polyurethane copolymers became soluble and leached out by the flow of sea water. The self-polishing rates of marine antifouling coatings formulated with the polymers proved to be easily controlled by the amount of 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl) propionic acid. Marine field test revealed that zinc-polyurethane antifouling coatings had excellent efficiency in preventing marine biofouling for more than 12 months. These results proved that the zinc-polyurethane copolymers were a good candidate for the preparation of long-efficiency and controllable marine antifouling coatings. RevêtementsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A hyperbranched polyol (HBP) was synthesized using dipentaerythritol as a core material and 2,2-bis(methylol) propionic acid as a chain extender. This was reacted with varying concentrations of soya fatty acid to make hyperbranched alkyd (HBA) resins. The HBA resins containing unreacted hydroxyl groups were reacted with isophorone diisocyanate at NCO/OH ratio of 1.6:1 to make high solid hyperbranched urethane alkyd (HBUA) resins. The excess NCO content in the HBUA resins was used to cure with atmospheric moisture, and thus moisture-cured HBUA coatings were formed. The resins were characterized by FTIR, and 13C NMR spectroscopic analysis. A series of such resins were made using different fatty acid/isocyanate ratios with respect to the hydroxyl groups present in the HBP. The effect of compositions on the mechanical and weathering properties of the cured resins was investigated. It was observed that there was an optimum fatty acid–isocyanate ratio in terms of the requirements of solvent, mechanical and weathering properties of the resin. The requirement of solvents for formulating HBUA coatings is much lower compared to linear alkyd-based coatings. The present study reveals that the moisture-cured HBUA resins can be used as a binder material in the field of low-pollution weather-resistance coatings.
ThermodurcissablesIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : Film-formers are used extensively in personal care formulations. In hair care applications they can be used to aid styling and enhance shine; in skin care and sun care they can protect the skin, add water-resistance and ensure the even distribution and adherence of active ingredients. Film-formers are particularly important in colour cosmetics where they can increase the wear properties of formulations such as lipsticks, mascaras, eyeliners, eyeshadows and foundations. They can have a significant effect on the ease of application of a cosmetic product as well as the appearance of the product on the skin, and the length of the time that the product remains on the skin. A wide range of both oil-soluble and water-soluble film-formers are currently used, all with their own advantages and disadvantages. Formulators and consumers look for different properties in film-formers at different times. In general the most desirable film-formers would create films that are:
- Strong and long-lasting
- Quick drying
- Non-tacky
- Light and comfortable on the skin
- Easy to remove when required
- Able to hold and deliver active ingredients
