Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The coatings industry has undergone significant transformations in recent years due to the replacement of organic solvent-based coatings by waterborne emulsion latex polymer coatings. Waterborne technology has generated profound impact in industry and everyday life, producing great environmental and health benefits. The prevalence of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in coatings has been greatly reduced, from 700 g/L in the 1940s to ~ 50 g/L in the 2010s. Although waterborne coatings offer considerable benefits, challenges remain in areas such as water resistance, stability, film formation, and surface hardness, which can affect their overall performance and application. These challenges are primarily caused by the conflicting requirements for desired properties before and after the coating dries. To maintain a stable dispersion before application, latex particles should be fully dispersible in water, i.e., hydrophilic. However, after the coating dries, water repellence, or hydrophobicity, is required. Thus, a solution that can maintain predominantly hydrophilic dispersion while rendering a hydrophobic surface after drying is necessary to make waterborne coating technology more versatile. In addition, a durable coating film demands excellent adhesion on the substrate surface, while showing good hardness (low tackiness) at the coating-air interface. This means it is beneficial to possess different or even opposite properties on the two sides of the coating films. Note de contenu : - Synthesis of PS-co-PVA hydrophilic nanoparticles

Surfaces (technologie)Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Temperature effect on the kinetics of photodegradation and surface accumulation of nanoparticles in an epoxy nanocoating exposed to ultraviolet light (UV) was investigated. A model epoxy coating containing 5% untreated nanosilica was selected. Exposed film specimens were removed at specified UV dose intervals for measurements of chemical degradation of the epoxy component, and nanosilica accumulation on specimen surface release as a function of UV dose for four temperatures. The chemical degradation was measured using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and UV–visible spectroscopy. Atomic force microscopy was employed to determine the kinetics of nanosilica accumulation on the nanocoating surface during UV exposure. The temperature dependence behaviors of kinetic parameters obtained by various measurement techniques will be used to better understand the degradation mechanism and surface accumulation of nanoparticles in exterior nanocoatings. Note générale : Bibliogr.

On distingue trois types.

Remédiation (technologie)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Chlorophenols, used as the fungicides in leather, are strictly limited in leather products. In this work, a metal–organic framework material, zeolitic metal azolate framework-7 (MAF-7), was first used to encapsulate laccase (Lac) to prepare MAF-7/Lac bio-composites with 98.5% immobilization yield. Afterward, Lac/MNP@MOM was formed by introducing the magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) into the Lac@MOM. MAF-7 with better hydrophilicity and stronger pH buffering ability, exhibits good compatibility with laccase, which can reserve the activity of laccase after immobilization. Moreover, the porous structure of MAF-7 is favorable for the sufficient contact between laccase and substrates. Lac/MNP@MOM exhibited excellent activity when exposed to high temperature, extreme pH, and organic solvents, which also simplified complex recovery steps. Furthermore, the degradation rate of 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) could reach as high as 97% within 24 h by immobilized laccase, and after nine consecutive cycles of operation, enzyme activity could remain over 80%, which gives it the potential for practical applications. Vêtements de sportIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Stretchable, nanocarbon heaters were screen-printed onto a stretchable film to create a passive heat maintenance device for elite sport. The heat uniformity and the temperature performance of these lightweight, large area electrothermal heaters were evaluated over a range of applied voltages using thermal imaging. The heaters provided a uniform heat over the 15 × 4 cm area with temperatures of 39°C, 54°C, and 72°C at 10, 15, and 20 V, respectively, within 150 s of being switched on. Tensile testing was used to examine the performance of the heaters under strain. At 20% nominal strain, the heaters gave a uniform heat output and a temperature of 44°C at 15 V, making it a promising candidate for wearable applications. The heaters were capable of maintaining temperatures of 40°C over 10 cyclic strains up to 10% nominal strain. The heaters were integrated into a proof-of-concept stretchable base-layer garment, with the effect of the heaters on skin temperature measured and thermal sensation evaluated during a simulated training session in an environmental chamber at an ambient temperature 0°C. The printed heaters maintained skin temperature and thermal sensation when compared with an unheated control. LDHs are layered compounds composed of positive metal hydroxides and negatively charged interlayer anions. We have discussed the structures and characteristics of LDHs in this review study, as well as many processes, such as the barrier mechanism, self-healing corrosion inhibitor method, and superhydrophobic mechanism, that demonstrate how LDHs operate in anticorrosion coatings. Additionally, how the use of LDH imparts flame-retardant qualities to the coatings is covered here, along with their respective processes. LDH coatings are suitable for packaging, biomedical, water treatment, and conductive applications alone or in combination with other materials.
