Solvants -- Suppression ou remplacementIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Low solubility and undesirable denaturation in conventional solvents continue to represent a significant challenge for efficient extraction, accurate characterization and versatile processing of collagen. In the present study, a room temperature ionic liquid (IL), 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate ([BMIM]Ac), was synthesized, and then evaluated as an alternative solvent for type I collagen. Real-time polarizing optical microscope observation indicated complete disintegration of hierarchical structure of collagen aggregates as solubilized in [BMIM]Ac at 25°C. The solubility reached up to approximately 8.0 wt.% at 25°C, more than ten times higher than that in conventional dilute acetic acid. In comparison with dilute acetic acid and recently reported chloridion ILs, high solubility of collagen in [BMIM]Ac at room temperature was ascribed to loose binding between [BMIM]+ and acetate, as well as stronger proton-accepting ability of [BMIM]Ac, which enabled rupture of those intermolecular hydrogen bonds and ionic bonds that stabilized collagen aggregates. However, such bond-rupturing effect was found selective at room temperature. As demonstrated by Fourier transform infrared, circular dichroism, atomic force microscope, and ultrasensitive differential scanning calorimetry analysis, [BMIM]Ac did not destroy the special triple-helical structure of tropocollagen molecules that had been identified as being of importance for the functional and bioactive properties of collagen. According to these results, the discovery of [BMIM]Ac as an ideal solvent for collagen may open up new possibilities for the chemistry and engineering of collagen, which has long been established as a readily accessible and renewable resource with many unique properties. Solutions aqueuses (chimie)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The adsorption behaviours were investigated of chromium-containing leather waste towards Acid Flavine G ( Acid Yellow 11; 18820) and Direct Pink 12B (Direct Red 31; 29100) in aqueous solution. The results indicated that both the acid dye and direct dye could be significantly adsorbed by this novel adsorbent. Acid pH values favor the adsorption and the adsorption capacity decreases with the increase of pH. The experimental data of adsorption isotherms of both the dyes fit well to the Langmuir model rather than the Freundlich model. The greatest amounts adsorbed of Acid Flavine G and Direct Pink 12B, at 293K, were 803.4mg/g and 798.7mg/g, respectively when the initial concentration of dye solution was 2000mg/L. The adsorption capacities of the dyes increased further with rising temperature. As the temperature was increased to 323K, the maximum adsorption amounts of Acid Flavine G and Direct Pink 12B reached 980.4mg/g and 1369mg/g respectively, which indicated that the mechanism of the adsorption might be chemical adsorption.
The adsorption kinetics data can be well-described by the pseudo-second-order rate model. The adsorption capacities calculated by the pseudo-second-order rate model were close to those determined by actual measurement (error < 8 %). The column adsorption kinetics studies showed that the breakthrough points of Acid Flavine G and Direct Pink 12B were 30 and 40 bed volumes in the experimental system, which indicated that the adsorption column has a high availability for adsorption of dyes. Desorption studies showed that the Acid Flavine G adsorbed could be completely desorbed by using 0.1mol/L NaHCO3, but complete desorption of Direct Pink 12B was somewhat difficult.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES : Materials - Influence of pH on adsorption - Adsorption isotherm studies - Adsorption kinetics studies - Column adsorption kinetics studies

SurfactantsIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : We have studied the adsorptions of aqueous solutions of three kinds of surfactants, anionic (sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate, SDBS), cationic (dodecyl trimethylammonium bromide, DTB) and a non-ionic (Triton X-100, TX-100), by chromium-containing leather waste. The results indicated that the anionic surfactant can be significantly adsorbed by the waste material adsorbent over the pH range 4.0-8.0. The adsorption capacities of the cationic surfactant and non-ionic surfactant on the adsorbent are limited. These facts imply that the predominant adsorption sites of such an adsorbent are amino groups and the Cr(III) combined with collagen. The adsorption capacity of SDBS increased with the rise of temperature when the initial surfactant concentration was 2000mg/L, the greatest adsorption of SDBS at 293K was 375mg/g, reaching 423mg/g at 313K, which indicates that the mechanism of the adsorption process may be chemical adsorption.
Higher ionic strength also leads to higher adsorption capacity. In general, the adsorption isotherms of SDBS on the adsorbent can be fitted by the Langmuir model. The adsorption kinetics data can be well described by the pseudo-second-order rate model. The adsorption capacities calculated by the pseudo-second-order rate model are close to those determined by actual measurements (error <10 %). The studies of column adsorption kinetics show that the breakthrough point of SDBS is around 150 x bed volume in the experimental system, which indicates the adsorption column has a high availability for the adsorption of anionic surfactant.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE : Materials - Adsorption isotherms - Adsorption kinetics - Column adsorption kinetics

ZirconiumIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Wet-white shavings are one of the main solid wastes produced in the leather industry. In this paper, Zirconium (IV)-loaded adsorbent (ZrLA) was prepared by using wet-white shavings as the supporting matrix. The fundamental adsorption behaviors of this new adsorbent for arsenic [As(V)] were investigated. It was found that the adsorption capacity of ZrLA for As(V) in aqueous solution was 60.90 mg-g-1, when the initial concentration of As(V) was 75.0 mg. L-1 at pH 4.0 and the dosage of ZrLA was 1.0 g.L-1. The initial pH of As(V) solution significantly affected adsorption capacity of ZrLA to As(V) and the optimal pH for adsorption was in the range of 3.0-6.0. The adsorption isotherms of As(V) could be well fitted by the Langmuir equation, and the maximum adsorption capacities calculated by the Langmuir equation were close to those determined by experiments. The adsorption kinetics of As(V) on ZrLA could be satisfactorily described by the pseudo-second-order rate model. The adsorption capacity was increased with the increase of the zirconium content in ZrLA, and the highest adsorption capacity was obtained when zirconium content of ZrLA was 90-110 mg.g-1. Wet-white (tannage)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Fe(III)-loaded adsorbent (FLA) was prepared from waste wet-white. As a new adsorbent, its behaviour towards anionic dyes, Direct Yellow 11 (DY11) and Acid Yellow 11 (AY11), were investigated. It was found that the FLA is effective in removal of anionic dyes from aqueous solution and acidic pH favours the adsorption. The adsorption capacity of DY11 was significantly increased with an increase of temperature, whilst that of AY11 decreased, due to their difference in molecular structures. The maximum adsorption capacities of DY11 and AY11 at 323K were found to be 302.1 and 490.0 mg.g-1 respectively and the adsorption equilibrium data can be well fitted by the Langmuir model. The adsorption kinetics could be accurately described by a pseudo-second-order rate model. Investigation of column adsorption process indicated that FLA is effective in removal of AY11 from water, and the column can be regenerated by using dilute NH3 solution.
