Résumé : |
A type of novel flocculating agent, collagen protein flocculant (CPF), was prepared by using untanned skin waste from a tannery as raw material and, as a typical application, the flocculation behaviour of CPF on papermaking black liquor was investigated. Four CPFs with different degrees of cationicity were synthesized and their structures were characterized by FT-IR, XPS, zeta potential analysis, and the determinations of degree of cationization and primary amine content. The CPFs exhibited satisfactory flocculation on papermaking black liquor because they led to ghigh TOC and colour removals and produced a small volume of sludge. The effective flocculation behaviour of CPFs can be attributed to a combined effect of charge neutralization and hydrogen bonding between CPF and the lignin in black liquor, as well as the binding of collagen to lignin. This research provides a novel approach in reuse of the skin wastes from leather industry. |
