Textiles et tissusIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Superhydrophobic coatings in the recent past is gaining great deal of attention for the range of properties provided by them for applications such as anti-icing coatings, self cleaning, biomimetic engineering materials, fouling release coating etc. A typical superhydrophobic (ultra hydrophobic) surface can repel water droplets from wetting itself, and the contact angle of a water droplet resting on a superhydrophobic surface is greater than 150°, which means extremely low wet ability is achievable on superhydrophobic surfaces. Many superhydrophobic surfaces (both manmade and natural) normally exhibit micro- or nanosized roughness as well as hierarchical structure, which somehow can influence the surface's water repellence. As the research into superhydrophobic surfaces goes deeper and wider, it is becoming more important to both academic fields and industrial applications . The scope of this article orbits around superhydrophobic coating, their working mechanism, fabrication techniques that enable the development of such coatings and their application in various fields. Tribologie (technologie)Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The energy losses due to friction in the industrialized countries represent an annual cost estimated at between 5 and 7% of their Gross Domestic Product. Approximately, one-third of the world's energy resources in present use appear as friction in one form or another. One of the major contributors to these friction losses is industrial machinery. Surface engineering, including surface treatments and coatings, is one of the most effective and flexible solutions for reduction of friction by Tribological Coatings.
Tribological coatings are used for wear resistance and friction reduction between interacting surfaces in relative motion. Its major application will be in automotive engines, cutting tools, industrial parts, etc. This also increases efficiency of moving parts leading to low carbon emission.
This paper will throw light upon different types, techniques, end usage, and methodology of application of Tribological Coating.Note de contenu : - Need for tribological coatings

Pigments à effets spéciauxIndex. décimale : 667.2 Colorants et pigments Résumé : Photochromic pigments are micro-encapsulated particles having photochromic cycles in it. The process in which the compound absorbs light/UV radiations and has reversible changes in its colour is called photochromism. Various kinds of dyes show photochromism effect such as spiropyrans, diarylethene, azobenzene, quinone etc., Spiropyrans are one of the oldest and perhaps the most studied families of photochromic dyes. Diarylethene class of photochromic compounds which are thermally irreversible and are fatigue resistant is of commercial importance. Photochromic complexes based on above mentioned dyes and metal are also used as photochromic compounds. Inorganic compounds like silver chloride, tungsten oxide(W03), etc. shows photochromic effect. Coordination compIex such as sodium nitroprusside and the ruthenium sulfoxide also shows photchromism. Photochromic compounds are used in various applications vz: sanglasses, supermolecular chemistry, solar energy, data storage and photochromic pigments. Photochromic dyes are encapsulated into polymer matrix to obtain photochromic pigment. Photochromic pigments are heat and solvent resistant. Same of these colorants have excellent weatherability and light fastness, and some others have quite poor light and chemical fastnesses. Photochromic pigments are used in plastics, paints, inks, etc. These are also used in novelty items Iike toy, cosmetics, clothing and industrial applications. These pigments are also used in combination with conventional oigments to getvarious colour effects. Note de contenu : - SYNTHETIC DYES : diarylethenes - Azobenzenes - Photochromic quinones
