However, latex paints thickened with cellulosics could not provide paint films, which are richer in looks and have high aesthetic appeal. Continuous research in order to overcome these deficiencies in cellulosics, led to the evolution of new generation thickeners termed as Associative Thickeners. These thickeners have out-performed cellulosics in many aspects and have been well accepted by the industry. Various aspects which resulted in changing the trend from use of cellulosic to associative thickeners are reviewed in this paper. Also, factors governing the performance of the above thickeners and latex paints based on them are discussed at length. Note de contenu : - ROLE OF THICKENERS IN LATEX PAINTS

But how many of us would really know that our own home, office and other indoor areas can equally be polluted ? According to EPA (US Environmental Protection Agency), majority of population is
unaware of this fact and is facing its consequences on health and well being. As per World Health Organization (WHO) report, around 4.3 million deaths each year are associated with exposure to indoor air pollution and around 3.7 million deaths a year are attributed to ambient (outdoor) air pollution. It's an issue that needs to be dealt with seriously, because people exposed to indoor air pollutants can include infants, elderly persons, housewives and terminally ill persons. These people spend more than 8 hours indoors and could end up breathing air with dangerous pollutants leading to serious health issues. Over the years, environmental agencies and media have been able to create awareness among people in various countries on Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) and guidelines have been published to define healthy IAQ which are listed in Table 1.Note de contenu : - What is formaldehyde and why is it so harmful ?
