Teinture -- Fibres textiles synthétiquesIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Reduction clearing using aqueous sodium dithionite under alkaline conditions at elevated temperatures is commonly carried out as an aftertreatment to remove deposits of disperse dye and other impurity residues from the surface of dyed polyester. In this paper, the effect of conventional reduction clearing on the colour and fastness properties of polyester dyed with a series of selected commercial disperse dyes at a range of depths of shade is established, and an understanding of the scientific principles is developed. The results correlate closely with an assessment of surface dye removal by cold acetone extraction of the dyed samples. Because of certain environmental, technological, and economic disadvantages associated with traditional reduction clearing using sodium dithionite, there is industrial interest in alternatives. Thus, this paper also describes a study of the use of two organic reducing agents, thiourea dioxide and hydroxyacetone, and the relative merits of the three processes are discussed. The outcome of clearing varies with the particular dye. Mechanistic explanations are proposed, based on individual characteristics of the molecular structures of the dyes. Scanning electron microscopic investigations of the surface of dyed samples before and after reduction clearing were qualitatively consistent with the assessments of the technical performance. This paper is the first in a series in which we will subsequently report further comparative studies, based on similar methodology, exploring alternative clearing processes.

TricotIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : The objective of this research was to investigate the use of crosslinked poly(N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) (PVP) to coat polyester/cotton knitted fabric, without adversely affecting its dyeing properties. Before dyeing, the knitted fabrics were tested for bursting strength to assess the influence of the coating on their resistance. The dyeing parameters were evaluated as the exhaustion (%), K/S value, colour difference (δE), relative strength (RS %) and colour fastness to washing. Bursting strengths were 9.4 for coated and 9.7 kgf cm−2 for uncoated knitted fabric samples, confirming an insignificant loss in resistance. In the evaluation of K/S, δE and RS%, the values for the samples with the highest concentration of PVP were the most different to those for the standard sample. The colour fastness showed satisfactory results indicating that neutralisation and washing after dyeing were effective. These results could lead to increased quality in the textile industry, adding value to products. Traitement chimiqueIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The aim of this research is to investigate the effect of alkali treatment of ramie fibers and addition of MCC on the properties of ramie/polyester laminated composites. The alkali treatment was performed using NaOH solution at a room temperature. The laminated composites was manufactured using a vacuum infusion method for three layers of treated woven ramie fibers in the polyester matrix. The MCC (microcrystalline cellulose) powder 0.5 wt.% was added into the polyester resin and then mixed by a mechanical stirrer at a rotation speed of 350 rpm for 5 minutes. The physical characterization was evaluated using FTIR, XRD, and SEM methods. The tensile test of a single fiber and laminated composites was carried out according to the ASTM D3379 and ASTM D3039, respectively. The experimental results show that the XRD of treated fiber with 5 wt.% NaOH solution has the highest crystallinity index of 66.3%. It impacts the increase of tensile strength and elastic modulus of single ramie fiber by 18% and 55%, respectively. The addition of MCC into the polyester matrix of laminated composite can increase the tensile strength and elastic modulus by 18% and 21%, respectively, compared to the untreated laminated composite. In addition, the treated fibers laminated composite can improve the adhesion and chemical bonding between fibers and polyester as a matrix. The addition of MCC filler may prevent the initial propagation of cracks on interlaminar surfaces of laminated composite.
