Relations structure-propriétésIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Highly reactive radical polyester acrylates are widely used as UV-curing binder resins for printing inks, coatings, and materials for additive manufacturing. Especially for the latter, polyesters with low viscosities are of high interest, as they allow for UV-curing materials with reduced amounts of reactive diluents to adjust the viscosity. One possibility to obtain polyester acrylates with low viscosities is the synthesis of hyperbranched structures, as the interactions of the polymer chains are reduced in comparison to their linear counterparts. In this study, an optimized synthetic protocol is described to obtain a set of highly branched polyester acrylates with a high degree of acrylation, without the use of activated reagents like anhydrides or acid chlorides that are usually employed to synthesize these products. Different cores and number of pseudo-generations of 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)propionic (bisMPA) are utilized to study the structure–property relationship of this class of polyesters. Comprehensive characterization of the synthesized resins and cured materials revealed high reactivities and good mechanical properties compared to similar materials reported in the literature. The design of the structure significantly influences the properties, allowing for the synthesis of specific resins with a wide range of potential applications. Note de contenu : - Material

ViscositéIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : As a material class, polyurethanes have unique properties over many other polymeric materials. Ease of reaction is one inherent property of both aromatic and aliphatic diisocyanates (ADIs), as they react in a 1:1 NCO:OH ratio with the numerous types of polyols available in the commercial market. The formed polyurethane bonds have high chemical resistances against many environmental conditions. Depending on the reactive polyol and the structure of the diisocyanate, polyurethanes can provide excellent abrasion resistance, superb elasticity, and high hardness.
Polyurethane chemistry provides many options in choosing systems that give soft-feel coatings and tough elastomers and rigid foams. But choosing the right systems requires a fundamental understanding of the makeup of the diisocyanates used in the crosslinking. Recent data explore the substitution of an aromatic diisocyanate by an aliphatic diisocyanate, with particular emphasis on the formulation of thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU) and some additional information on the performance of polycarbodiimides (PCDI).Note de contenu : - Aliphatic vs. aromatic diisocyanates

Sutures (chirurgie)Index. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : This work studies the opto-thermo-mechanical properties of two different surgical sutures using interferometry. The polarizing Pluta interference microscope combined with opto-thermo-mechanical (OTM) device were used to study the effect of drawing on monofilament polyester (PET) and polyamide (PA) surgical sutures at room temperature. The variation of the refractive indices and the birefringence of both PET and PA sutures with different draw ratios were determined. The resulting data was used to calculate the optical orientation function and the average work per chain. The stress–strain curve was studied to estimate some mechanical parameters; yield stress, yield strain, Young’s modulus and strain optical coefficient. The variations of the refractive the index profile were calculated for different draw ratios. In addition we studied the effect of temperature, during the drawing process, on monofilament PET suture. The obtained results provide important data for better characterization of suture materials. - FIGURES : 1. The new cyclo pigments are ideal for the automotive industry - 2. So-called absorption pigments, produced by iron-oxide coated mica are available in copper and russet colours - 3. pearlescent coatings are most often produced by mixing thin platelets of mica or borosilicate that have been coated with a material of high refractive index, such as titanium dioxide (as shown here), iron oxide with a resin matrix - 4. When pearlescent pigments are dry blended into pre-formulated resins, surface charge incompatibilities between the two materials can cause the pigments to separate from the resin matrix, and build up in the corona spray gun tip. When the buildup becomes unstable enough, it will eventually break off as clumps, making the coated part defective or undesirable - 5. The desired visual effect of a pearlescent coating results from the interaction of light with the TiO2 coated mica or borosilicate platelets within the coating. Parallel orientation of the platelets is key - the misalignment of the coated platelets will cause light to be reflected randomly, diminishing the pearlescent luster.
