These fibers have been processed into 1000/0 biobased T-shirts. The PEF fiber spinning, and fabric weaving and dyeing was performed by the Institute of Textile Technology at RWTH Aachen University (ITA), Aachen/Germany, using conventional polyester processing technology and equipment. Teinture -- Fibres textiles synthétiquesIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : A new dye-modified poly(ethylene oxide)–poly(propylene oxide) polymer, in which the dye molecule (CI Disperse Red 60) is bonded onto polyether monoamine via a triazine ring, was synthesised for the preparation of dye aqueous dispersions and was characterised by Fourier Transform-infrared spectroscopy, 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and elemental analysis. This polymer exhibits unique dispersing performance for CI Disperse Red 60. The mechanism behind the improved performance is briefly discussed with the help of adsorption isotherms. The results indicated that the hydrophobic dye group of this polymer can strongly adsorb onto the dye particle surface through π–π interaction while its long hydrophilic poly(ethylene oxide) chains allow the formation of a thick layer around the dye particles. It was speculated that the adsorbed polymer molecule on the dye surface would form a brush-like monolayer conformation. The dyeing performance of the prepared dye dispersions on polyester fabrics was also investigated. It was found that this polymer can effectively increase the apparent solubility of disperse dye. The dyed fabrics showed very good to excellent fastness to washing and rubbing, while the dyeing effluent was colourless. Structure moléculaireIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A series of polyesters was prepared to evaluate hydrolytic stability as a function of cyclohexyl dibasic acid content. The three cyclohexyl dibasic acids: 1,2; 1,3; and 1,4 were formulated into polyesters with two glycols. The proportion of cis and trans isomers was evaluated via 1H NMR. The hydrolytic stability of short chain polyesters was evaluated in an acetone/water mixture which solubilized the polyesters to mimic oligoester behavior within a thermosetting polyester coating environment. The rate of hydrolysis was monitored by acid titration and corroborated by GPC. Surprisingly, 1,2-cyclohexyl diacid-based polyesters were robust, and 1,3-cyclohexyl diacid-based polyesters were the most susceptible to hydrolysis. Evidently, a 1,2-anchimeric effect for cyclohexyl dibasic acid polyesters was not an important consideration, while the 1,3-cyclohexyl ester interaction was. Consequently, an anomeric effect was proposed.

polymères cristaux liquidesIndex. décimale : 677.4 Textiles artificiels Résumé : Since the development of aramid fibers by DuPont, several companies have conducted research into the possibility of meltspinnable polyarylate fibers. In the present day, Liquid Crystal Polyester (LCP) fibers, which are made from a polymer consisting of 6-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid and hydroxybenzoic acid using Celanese technology, have been placed on the market by Kuraray. LCP fibers are a kind of super-fibers, and can be obtained by melt-spinning and then shifting to heat treatment for solid state polymerization in the form of fibers, which gives superior performance to fibers such as higher level of tenacity, modulus, wet strength, etc. The reason why only a limited number of manufacturers could produce them is in the difficulty of its spinning and heat treating processes, though LCP filament yarns have interesting characteristics. However, Toray Industries has succeeded in the development of new LCP filament yarns named Siveras which are based on polymer different from existing LCP fibers. Toray is able to produce both LCP polymer and fibers. Siveras is developed by the combination of polymer technology and original spinning processes which contributed in creating unique characteristics.
