Reaction of gelatin with Cr(III) Al(III) and Fe(III) : Investigation by spectrofluorometry / Chen Jiping in JOURNAL OF THE SOCIETY OF LEATHER TECHNOLOGISTS & CHEMISTS (JSLTC), Vol. 92, N° 6 (11-12/2008)
[article]
Titre : Reaction of gelatin with Cr(III) Al(III) and Fe(III) : Investigation by spectrofluorometry Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Chen Jiping, Auteur ; Gong Ying, Auteur ; Wuyong Chen, Auteur Année de publication : 2008 Article en page(s) : p. 245-249 Note générale : Bibliogr.

Spectroscopie de fluorescenceIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The fluorescence quenching of gelatin with Fe3+/Cr3+/Al3+ was studied by spectrofluorimetry, and the reaction mechanism was analyzed with the Stern-Volmer equation. Meanwhile, the number of binding sites, the binding constant, the thermodynamic functions of the reaction between gelatin and Fe3+ were calculated. The results suggest that the fluorescence quenching of the gelatin is static quenching with Fe3+, dynamic quenching with Cr3+, but no quenching with Al3+. As a result, it is selective for the metal tanning agents complexing to the collagen. Also, the binding ratio of the gelatin and Fe3+ is about 1:1, Moreover, the thermodynamic functions (ΔHmθ and ΔSmθ) in the reaction indicate that the reaction of the gelatin and Fe3+ is endothermal and the entropy increases in the process. The study should help to understand the mineral tanning machanism. Traction (mécanique)Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : In order to solve conflicting decision problems, multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) methods are used to make the best choice among many criteria. In this research, sixteen different samples of melt compounded polyamide 6 (PA6) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were studied. The raw materials were compounded using a twin-screw extruder and the samples were chosen based on an L16 orthogonal array of Taguchi approach. The alternatives of the problem were samples produced under different injection parameters including holding pressure, injection temperature, and with various weight percentages of MWCNTs. The chosen criteria were tensile strength, elastic modulus, Charpy impact strength, Rockwell hardness, and cost. Analytical hierarchy process (AHP) was used to weight the criteria and due to the results, tensile properties were the most important criteria with the weight of 0.319. In the next step, a technique for order preference by similarity to an ideal solution (TOPSIS) and the multi-objective optimization on the basis of ratio analysis (MOORA) were implemented to rank the alternatives. Based on the considered criteria the samples containing 1 wt% of MWCNTs was selected as the best alternatives. Essais (technologie)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Studies on the preservation of skins with antiseptics alone have been made for 20 days' storage at 25°c. These salt-free short-term preservation methods are important to the hide, skin, fellmongering and leather industry in combating salt effluent, particularly in inland areas. Physical tests on the garment leather produced from these antiseptic treated skins shows that this method is capable of preserving skins for 20 days at 25°c but visual assessment of leather and grain quality revealed that the antiseptic treated skins yielded leather which was in general of slightly inferior quality and with more grain blemishes. The reasons for this are under investigation. The results also show that sodium chlorite in the antiseptic mixture gives an inferior product. Nevertheless the results are encouraging for the development of a practical and economic method for the short-term preservation of hides and skins without salt.
