Revêtement autoréparant:Peinture autocicatrisanteIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Polymers & polymeric composites are susceptible to formation of stress induced micro cracks during their service life, which often goes un-noticed during initial stages. Subsequent progression of micro-cracks to macro scale results in catastrophic failures of polymer coatings & composites. Timely detection and filling of micro-cracks will go a long way in ensuring the service life of surface coatings apart from reducing maintenance resources. Self healing functionality in surface coatings significantly reduces the probability of catastrophic failures by filling (healing) micro cracks as and when they form or immediately afterwards. This article reviews the various approaches towards self-healing functionality in surface coatings including some of the recent advancements which are potentially promising. Revêtements antisalissures:Peinture antisalissuresIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Bio-fouling on ship hulls is prevented by the use of antifouling paints. Anti-fouling has various mechanisms of which self-polishing types is receiving a great deal of attention world wide. The progressive abandonment of TBT self-polishing technology all over the world has led to the necessity of exploring new TBT-free i.e. environmentally safe horizons. The new metal-acrylate TBT-free systems are finding a new insight in this field where such coatings have found to be lasting for around 5 years.
The foul release systems are the most attractive environmentally since they do not use biocides. Although they are considerably more expensive, they are now being used on fast vessel type, which are able to exploit the smoothness & that this technology will become increasingly important for control of fouling in the 21st century.Note de contenu : - THE SUCCESS OF TBT IS DUE TO FOLLOWING FACTORS

In fact fifty years ago, virtually ail paints used were solvent based paints. Today, advances in Emulsion Polymers have resulted in the development of water based enamel that can look and perform like solvent based paints when applied, not only on walls but also, on wood & metal. While water based emulsion paints are safer to use for both health and environmental point of view, use of solvent based paints add to environmental and safety concerns. Major reason for their use till now is that they were economical and emulsion polymers had not yet been developed to deliver equivalent performance. This trend of using Water based Enamel Paints already exists in developed countries and is now catching up in India too. The purpose of this article is to appraise the reader, the benefits of water based enamel and harmful effects of Solvent based paints on environment and human health and also the efforts Dow Coating Materials Note de contenu : - Solvent and its harmful effects

Métaux -- Revêtements protecteurs
Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The philosophy and chemistry of corrosion has made a great progress in recent years. The economics, safety & regulations of operating equipment and conservation of limited material resources cause seriousness of corrosion. The corrosion; vulture of metallurgy, is the biggest challenge before the world where 10-12 percent of the metal is lost. This loss can be mitigated by suitable coatings and timely inspection of the coatings with the available technology. The organic coating is the cheapest and simplest mode of mitigating corrosion if its selection and application is done judiciously. The interface between a metallic substrate and an organic adherent, be it a coating or an adhesive, is of crucial importance in determining the performance of that system. The problem should be full, understood and analyzed by those who are confronted with it, otherwise the preservation of corrosion will remain largely a question of "hit and miss" with more misses than hits.
