Revêtements multicouchesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Biocatalytic coatings are thin (<100µm), nano porous, coatings of partially coalesced polymer particles surrounding living bacteria. Coatings are formulated so that they can be dried and frozen without loss of microbial activity. Whole-cell biosensors, oxidations and reductions have been demonstrated in coatings consisting of a 30µm to 50µm thick bacteria plus latex layer covered by a porous sealant coating. Formulation and drying methods have been developed to generate permeability without killing the cells. A film formation toxicity assay is used to optimize dying and reactivity. Permeability is monitores by diffusion measurements and cryo-SEM. Bacteria such as E.coli are viable and capable of gene expression and coating, drying, storage and rehydration. Spatial gene expression is monitored using gene fusions and LSCM. Coatings have been formulated for hyperthermopiles, facultative anaerobes and aerobic bacteria. A high effectiveness factor coating for the oxidation of D-sorbitol L-sorbose by latex-embedded Gluconobacter is being studied for developing coating methods for strict aerobes. A diffusion reaction model is proposed to engineer highly reactive multi-layer bacterial coatings for a variety of applications. In this paper various coatings are discussed and about what makes it to be called ecofriendly and their modification to make them so. It also focuses on the cost-efficient and environmental friendly coatings. Coatings like poly urethane, ceramic coatings etc were discussed based on their properties and their behaviour and effect on environment. It also discusses various ways to test its behaviour and modifications that can be done. Ceramic coatings are among the most durable materials, underlying the performance and extending the service life of equipment parts that must operate reliably in harsh environments, including aircraft landing gear, tractors, oilfield pumps, and gun tubes. However, in the mid- 1990s, processes that could apply wear-resistant coatings and that were environmentally friendly had not been developed. They offer oerfirlance advantages over zinc phosphates and modified phosphates at considerably lower loadings, thus making them very cost effective.They also offer equivalent performance to chromates without any toxicity concerns for the protection of non ferrous metals. They are environmentally friendly as they contain no heavy metals and are not subject to any regulatory labelling. They are also eco-friendly as the main raw material is extracted from the dead sea, a naturally renewing resource. Revêtements protecteursIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Wet storage stain, especially on galvanised sheet, is a white or gray, crumbley and porous powdery deposit that can develop on newly galvanised sheets, plates, angles, bars and pipes. The most common form of stain is white in colour so such storage stain on galvanised surface is also known as white rust or white corrosion. Due to their configuration, many products galvanized after fabrication are less susceptible to wet storage staining than plain galvanized wire and sheet.
The bulky white or gray corrosion product associated with wet storage stain should not be confused with the protective layer on zinc corrosion products which form under normal atmospheric exposure of galvanized coatings. Even though the corrosion products on fully exposed galvanized surfaces may be white or light gray, they are not the product of wet storage stain. Their color is solely a function of the environment and the zinc-iron alloy content of the galvanized coating.Note de contenu : - Chemistry
