Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Fully fluorinated coatings, particularly those using polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), are favoured in cookware applications for their release properties. Although the low abrasion resistance of these coatings improves when using hardening additives, hardeners negatively impact release. An experimental design was performed to investigate the impact of two different hardening additives and deliver the most desirable results. Note de contenu : - Potential for tailored improvements in non-stick coatings

- Impact on surface characteristics
- Particle size and hardening additive have greatest impact on gloss
- Roughness is not an independent variable
- Further optimisation for release and abrasion resistance needed

Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Painting of a Zn-21wt%Al-2wt% Cu alloy, with four different superficial conditions, was carried out without difficulties using conventional paint systems recommended for applications over galvanised steel and even a common system to paint steel. The preparation of the ternary alloy surfaces by means of two phosphating treatments led to a slight improvement in the performance of the paint systems in exposure tests to a NaCl solution, a SO2 atmosphere and to weathering. Hardly any difference was observed among the superficial conditions in the adhesion tests. After 11 years of atmospheric exposure, specimens of the ternary alloy coated with the epoxy-polyurethane or the chlorinated rubber paint systems did not present major symptoms of degradation. ViscoélasticitéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Characterization of material properties of polymers, films, and coatings is an important component to understand and subsequently to predict performance of these materials. It is often challenging to determine material properties of thin films. Additionally, determination of material properties of polymers can be challenging if these materials do not consolidate to a solid, particularly when residual solvent is present in the sample. In this paper, we introduce Evaporative Dynamic Oscillation (EDOT), a technique that allows the characterization of rheological properties of polymers and coatings in thin film form, in situ. Results indicate that EDOT can successfully characterize drying and cure of coatings and polymeric films by monitoring viscoelastic properties of these films as a function of time and temperature. Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Even the little things can make a difference in the coating formulation. It is common sense that the biggest contributor to more bio-based coatings are the polymers, but the additives can have an impact on total renewable content of a formulation. The number of choices is still slightly limited, but a selection can be found in the table. Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : There is a trade-off between water resistance and mechanical properties of the waterborne polyurethane film. Aiming to solve this problem, the waterborne polyurethane-acrylate (WPUBH) was prepared by post-chain extension of dithiol instead of diamine, which could improve the storage stability and reduce the water absorption rate due to the absence of urea groups, and by terminating with hydroxyethyl acrylate, which could reduce the water absorption rate and improve the mechanical properties at the same time deriving from the crosslinking of double bonds after heating. The rate of water absorption for WPUBH-2 film decreased down to 2.87%, and the tensile strength reached 8.5 MPa. The water resistance and the mechanical properties of WPUBH obtained a good balance compared with those of the carboxylate-based waterborne polyurethane-acrylate in the previous reports. They had excellent bonding properties for wood joints, and the tensile shear strength was up to 4.53 MPa.
