Tannage Résumé : To manage the environmental impacts of chrome tannage, a burgeoning option lies in seeking alternatives that reproduce the high hydrothermal stability and retain the versatility of chromium salts. In this study, a novel chromium-free tanning process based on in-situ condensate melamine-formaldehyde oligomer was reported. Instead of using prepared melamine-formaldehyde syntan, which inevitably contained post-condensates with compromised penetration capability and reactivity, melamine and formaldehyde monomers were first allowed to penetrate evenly into bated hides and then condensation was triggered in-situ. Total organic carbon (TOC), total nitrogen (TN), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), and isoelectric point (IP) analysis demonstrated these in-situ condensate oligomers covalently reacted with amino or hydroxyl residues, introducing rigid and stable chemical crosslink between collagen chains. Consequently, the hydrothermal stability of the tanned leather was significantly enhanced, evidenced by thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and a shrinking temperature (Ts) approaching 93°C. In addition, scanning electron microscope (SEM) observation indicated that the in-situ tanned leather exhibited smoother grain, more even and much looser fiber structure compared with control, which was tanned by traditional melamine-formaldehyde syntan. According to these results, the in-situ condensation strategy developed in this study could be employed as an efficient chromium-free tannage, which eliminated the adverse effects of post-condensates in traditional melamine-formaldehyde syntan while exhibiting improved tanning efficiency.

SilanesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Binders are the essential ingredients in every coating formulation and primarily define the properties, applications, and curing technologies of the coating system. The most popular and commonly used binders in conventional coatings are usually designed to be cured by one specific curing technique, such as thermal curing, radiation curing, or ambient temperature curing. Systems with binders that can be cured with only one curing mechanism have inherent limitations, such as difficulty balancing hardness and flexibility, substrate characteristics, flow, leveling, and wettability, complete surface, through curing with no apparent defect, and poor adhesion to substrates in some cases. These shortcomings often require more application space. Note de contenu : - MATERIALS

Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The cure behaviour of oligourethane diols crosslinked with melamine formaldehyde resin is influenced by the amount of the crosslinker used in the formulation and by the bake temperature. In the course of baking major part of the cross-linker is consumed in trans-etherification reaction and a part of it undergoes selfcondensation. The aromatic nature of TDI imparts rigidity while aliphatic IPDI results in flexibility of the backbone chain of oligomer. In the case of formulations containing 30% cross-linker baked at 140°C for 20 min, a major part of the reaction is completed which indicates the ideal condition for crosslinking. The findings indicate that the knowledge about the cure schedules is essential to control the poor durability, resistance to solvents, mar or scratch of underbake coatings as well as lack of flow and levelling, brush strokes, roller striations, orange peel, wrinkling and yellowing of overbake coatings. The profile of cure schedules has been determined in the form of Cure Window which measures the extent of reaction in terms of crosslink density as function of bake temperature. The width of the cure window has direct application to paint cure uniformity. The lower and upper range of temperatures for baking the coatings has been illustrated in terms of Nominal and True Cure Windows. Note de contenu : - Cure Window

Transparence (optique)Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : As described herein, a simple one-step hydrosilylation reaction was employed to synthesize alicyclic epoxy silicone prepolymers by using poly(dimethylsiloxane-co-methylhydrosiloxane) (PDMS-PHMS) with different hydrogen contents and 4-vinyl-1-cyclohexene-1,2 epoxide (VCHO) as precursors. The structures of the synthesized epoxy polysiloxane oligomer was characterized by Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR) spectroscopy techniques, thus confirming the successful synthesis of the prepolymers. With the addition of an appropriate amount of cationic photoinitiator, the epoxy polysiloxane prepolymers undergo cationic polymerization under ultraviolet light irradiation and were quickly cured to yield series of epoxy polysiloxane resin films. The performances of these cured films were tested and characterized by various techniques such as UV transmittance, thermal weight loss analysis, and contact angle and pencil hardness measurements. The results revealed that the surfaces of these films were uniform and transparent, and these films had excellent heat resistance, acid resistance, hydrophobicity, and ink removal properties. In addition, the influence of the cycloaliphatic epoxy monomer content on the curing behavior and network performance is explored. This study reveals that the curing rate increases as the amount of grafted cycloaliphatic epoxy monomer is increased and that a denser crosslinking network provides the resultant film. Finally, the photocurable silicone material investigated herein is simple to prepare and has excellent performance, and has potential applications in the field of anti-smudge coatings.
