The distribution of various ingredients in the coating films directly affects a coating’s appearance and performance ; for example, optical properties, substrate adhesion, chemical resistance, and mechanical durability. Over the years, a plethora of analytical tools have been utilized in coatings characterization and defect identification. Microscopy and vibrational spectroscopy are complementary techniques and the combination of the two can provide the most complete information regarding the distributions of different coatings ingredients, as well as the fate and the impact of liquids or particulates that come into contact with the dried coating films. RugositéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Metal oxides, due to their low cost, environmental friendliness and wide sources, have attracted great attention. We chose iron oxide/graphene oxide (Fe3O4/GO) nanohybrids to modify a PU sponge to increase the surface roughness of the sponge without damaging its inherent structural properties. The composite was then treated with octadecane thiol to reduce the surface energy and produce a superhydrophobic and oleophilic absorption material with a water contact angle of 157°. From the absorption experiment with simulated oily water (including diesel oil, lubricating oil, rapeseed oil, chloroform, N,N-dimethyl formamide, tetrahydrofuran, ethanol and acetone), it was found that the Fe3O4/GO-modified PU sponge could absorb up to 80–170 times its own weight while showing outstanding recyclability achieved by squeeze/absorption cycles. Moreover, the composite absorption material exhibited weak magnetic properties, suggesting its recycling practicability. These results provide a quick and simple strategy to deal with oil spills and chemical leakage.
Note de contenu : - Viscosité

Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Protection is the main function of gloves; also comfort of the wearer has to be kept in mind while making gloves without compromising on strength and flexibility. Body dissipates heat in the form of sweat; sweating through hands is likely to be more while using gloves in relatively hot weather conditions resulting in discomfort and slipperiness. In order to overcome these problems there is a need for development of materials, which can respond to temperature changes providing comfort and protection. In our current study, Phase Changing Material (PCM) was encapsulated in condensate polymers of melamine formaldehyde for preparation of thermoresponsive syntan. The syntan was characterised using different techniques such as Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermo Gravimetric Analysis (TGA) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Glove leathers made using this syntan were termed “Cool glove leathers” as they showed thermoresponsive behaviour, which exhibited a temperature difference of 1.5±0.5°C to that of control leather samples with 0.5±0.4°C. The cool glove leathers were tested for various properties like strength, organoleptic and thermoresponsive function.
